Fuel gauge flip flop?

Hey all I changed my fuel filters on my truck for the first time. Went and fueled up. After fueling up the gauge didn't go up? I drove home turned the key off and on and it slowly went up. So today after I got out of work started the truck. It said low fuel and gauge was dead empty. I drove home turned the truck off and on and bang right up to where it should be. Is there something I could have disturbed while swapping out the filters? Everything went smooth and easy during the swap. Just looking for a place to start before I drop the tank plumb full of fuel.

Are there any known issues with the fuel sending unit on these trucks? Besides the whole foot screen pickup thing.

I do not think that your fuel gage problem has anything to do with the fuel filter replacement. The fuel level sender is in the tank.

An outside possibility is a poor wiring connection along the frame rail between the tank and the truck's brain. It is worth looking around with a strong light to see if there is anything obvious.

Fixing the fuel level sensor requires dropping the tank or removing the truck's bed. Before going that deep, you need to be sure that the problem is not external to the tank.

The problem is not related to the filter change.
You most likely have crud on the sender.
I did a post some time last year where I fixed mine.
But if it's bouncing around you may have to replace the unit.

Here is a link to my post. You may want to read all of the thread
