Plugging in.

I have a 2000 7.3 deisel. Truck was in Oregon and they didn't need to plug in at night. I live in the Midwest and I will need to plug in at night. What kind of heater do you reccomend? Thanks.

There should be a plug in the front bumper if equipped witha block heater next to drivers tow hook

I was told by my Ford dealer that ALL diesels came with a block heater. The cord was only there if the purchaser was paying for a heater.
They get you though if you go to get a cord, last I heard around $50.

this is correct. They all have the heater just not all have the chord. I am planning on finally getting around to doing the marine outlet mod in my front bumper this winter.

that's a quick write up if interested.

Further to this, you really don't HAVE to plug it in. Folks up in Canada can get by without plugging them in. I only plug mine in when the forecast is for below 0 temps. Otherwise it is just a convenience to get the truck to blow hot air faster, has nothing to do with getting it started.

yes it will start, but having the block heated puts less strain on the motor for even moderately cold starts. I have mine on a mechanical timer. I leave around 7am so it clicks on at 4am and turns itself off at 7. You don't need it plugged in all night just sucking juice.

the working condition of your glow plugs / GPCM will come in to play too... unfortunately i have codes on 6 of my 8 glow plugs, so i have to plug in when the temp gets into the 30's at this point.
