trailer plug/ ibc issues

Hi every one I am new to the site and I have searched this forum and there is a lot of great info. I have a new to me 08 F250 superduty fx4.

My problem is I hooked up my trailers to the new truck and I have no brakes. All the lights works the controller has power in the truck. I have tested all the prongs all work except I have no power to the electric brake prong inside the connector. I pulled connector apart and checked inside and nothing there either. I know this has probably been addressed a thousand times but Thanks for your time and help. Kevin

Can you tell us how you are checking for power at your seven pin?

I used a volt meter to check it while my wife held the switch on and got no readings. I even pulled connector apart and still nothing on the inside. My trailers worked perfectly with my old truck just last week. Thanks for your help

Does this mean you found no wire at that conductor?

Clarification?

Okay, so we can all be on the same page. You are hooking up a new truck to an existing trailer. The trailer was just working and is not the suspect in this mystery. You have gone to the seven pin on the back of the truck and can not find power on either side of the receptacle when your wife operates the slide manually on your controller while you test with a meter. Good job!

And you have already check under your hood so you know you have good fuses and relays?

When you get this far, the options are fewer and increasingly less likely. You checked fuses for continuity with your meter, I am assuming. Did you check them for power?

The reason I am going slowly here is once you get past the obvious, the most common miscue is missing a step. The simple stuff gets me every time. I always use my meter to check continuity and voltage before moving ahead.

Usually the back of the plug on the truck is where the issue is at, due to its location. So you might pull that apart and check the power again.

Does your controller have a multiplug that plugs in to it? If so, when you apply the brakes via the pedal, do you have power at that pin of the multiplug?
Also, keep in mind that some controllers won't send power to the pin in the socket at the rear unless you have trailer brakes connected, so you have to jumper from the pin to the trailer brakes (and also the jumper ground between the truck and the trailer) and get a reading from that jumper

Can you be specific as to which controllers can not be pin tested for voltage without a trailer attached? It sounds to me like you are describing measuring amp output, in which case you are absolutely correct, you do need a trailer attached or use an emulator.

The OP, in this case, is reporting no voltage and is not attempting to track down amp output, at least that is what I understand the case to be.

Steve, I just pulled the controller out of dash and checked voltage at the blue wire in the plug at back of the controller and I have good voltage there just nothing at the back of the truck.

My Tekonsha P3.
I ran in to this in the spring and spent a good amount of time with Tekonsha tech support trying to diagnose. Luckily they have a lifetime warranty and since I was needing to leave on a trip the tech cross shipped me a new one rather than making me wait to get mine, test it, then send out another.
