Ok guys I really need some help!!! I recently bought a 2001 f-350 xl 4 door with the 8 foot box it has the 5.4L triton v8. I was heading to a job up in northern Alberta about 10 hours away from where I live. On the drive I lost control of the truck on some black ice I was doing about 50 miles I went into the ditch but nothing crazy drove right out after. Now my truck won't do over 30 mph the engine starts to sputter and back fire I loose all my power i have no idea what's going on. At idle she revs fine but as soon as I put her into drive it's like she wants to die what can it be? Thanks
My guess would be plugged up exhaust, the event might have knock the honeycomb lose in the Cat and plugged up the exhaust. Or if the Cat was hot and the snow cooled it rapidly it can crack the housing which will wreck the Cat as well..
What about the fuel cut off switch, do any of you guys think maybe that could have been activated or partially activated ? I don't know exactly how these work myself, I know they're supposed to cut the fuel off in an accident, but could they be partially activated if the accident wasn't that serious ? Might be worth a quick look.
did you plug up the exhaust? Any check engine lights? How about your intake. is it clean and dry?
Exhaust seems fine at idle in park I can rev her into the red I had a tune up done just before leaving too someone said something about speed regulator maybe but not sure
