hey guys, i'm getting a p0488 code and although i know its nothing serious i would still like to see it go away if i can. i'm pretty sure its from the sensor that is underneath the intake elbow that only the 03-04's have (the butterfly plate sensor) because when i unplugged it the connector was an oily mess. so i was wondering, what is the actual name of that sensor, can i just pull it and clean it up and hopefully it will work again, and does anyone know what size those no-tamper torx screws are? WHY NO-TAMPER!!! Arg! and yes, i have had the plate removed for years now, and there are pins inside of the wire connections (not just dummy parts like some years have). thanks!
EGRVR Exhaust Gas Recirculation Vacuum Regulator. (Maybe-that's on the acronym list) No experience with them but I thought you could pull the butterfly and leave it plugged in with no issues. Could you pull the whole elbow for cleaning? I think O'Rileys sells a set of tamper proof Torx bits.
did some digging around and its called the "egr throttle position sensor" and yes i've had it unplugged for years without a problem. now that i have my scan gauge i keep getting this p0488 code. from all my searching this code really isn't anything to worry about, however like i said while i had my elbow off for install of my boost gauge i had unplugged the egr throttle position sensor and it was an oily mess. thinking its shot if its oily on the connector side (kind of like a icp sensor...once oily on the wrong side she's done for). just wondering if i can pull it and clean it up to see if my code goes away, or just replace the sensor. i'm not sure if its the source of my code tho.
It is the source of your code and it's absolutely nothing to worry about. It won't cause you any fan issues or defuel's. I have an aftermarket elbow on mine and an 05 intake so I have nothing to plug into and never had a problem for 195K miles. The only way to really get rid of it is fix/replace the sensor or get a tune writer to turn it off with a tune.
I’d like to rekindle this thread back alive, having some issues aswell , I still have the butterfly plate in , I read some where that when the truck is shut off the valve should be closed ( witch mine is not) , it’s not sooted up and I can move it freely but springs back to full open position, It threw a code about a week ago and never came back, The engine at low idle is rough almost like the plate is closed tighter than a Frogs A$$, the code P-1334 directed to TPS - minimum stop throttle plate actuator sensor, I’ll post back on my findings , did the Op ever get his sensor removed ? Or is this a whole assembly part from Ford.

Same here...'05 intake and aftermarket elbow. I taped up the pigtail and had the sensor programmed out with no problems.
