'97 Expy EB - Driver's side window problem

Hello All:
The driver's side window on my '97 Expy has developed a new issue. When I hit the Auto window down switch, it goes all the way down. Then when I try to bring it back up, it seems to get stuck momentarily and then with a loud thunk the motor kicks in and pulls the window back up. I am suspecting that the window is going so far down that the teeth on the window arm are getting disengaged from the motor's gear. If I don't use the Auto down and carefully bring down the window with the switch without bottoming it out, it will go up just fine.

Is there a way for me to limit the lowest position that the window will go to when I hit Auto down ? If not, I can live without the Auto down feature so how do I disable it ? I have opened the driver's side door panel and have access to the window switches, window motor (which I replaced last year) and the scissor mechanism for raising/lowering the window.

Thanks for any advice

pull the panel and see if the stop broke.

Thanks for your response, Alloro. I'm not sure what I should be looking for though. I have the panel open and I've put my hand inside the door cavity to feel around the window track but didn't feel anything broken off.

Cheers

Okay, to be a bit more specific, in the below image note the gear within the red circle where the teeth stop. That is the travel limit stop. The spot weld within the blue circle can break free and allow the gear to move enough so that the window motor rides right over the stop within the red circle.

Hi Alloro:
Thanks very much for clarifying exactly with the picture. I checked the arm and the weld seems to be fine. From your description, I was pretty certain that's what the problem would've been. So, I'm still not sure what was causing this.

Anyways, I used my multimeter to figure out that the brown wire on the window switch is the one that triggers the Auto down relay and I snipped it to avoid accidentally triggering the Auto down. Now, I am restricted to bringing the window down manually but I'm fine with it. Just didn't want the motor to break down because of this.

Cheers
