Read several posts and got the door panel off no sweat. First attempt at silicon didn't last but three up and downs. Next one worked great. (Permatex silicon). Only problem the window only goes down halfway and get lodged. It appears the front of the window is going down faster than the year. Apparently my job of marking the position of the retainers was subpar. Whats my problem? Which, or are both, of the retainers to far forward or to far backward? To far apart? I need some hints.
Thanks,
The Putt man
The best way to line them up is have the window about half way up, place the retainers on the window in the original spot, just look for the glue residue. Then after the retainers are lined up carefully roll the window up, you will have to connect the window switch assembly and have the key on for it to work. Make sure the window is in the back track securely. It’s much easier with two people, one to roll the window up and watch the retainers and the other one to hold the window in its rear track. Once it is rolled up all the way I would let it dry for 2 days before attempting to open it. To make sure this doesn’t happen again take some silicon spray and spray the entire window track and down into the tracks where the window slides on. You can spray all the doors with the door panel on, just stick the straw at each track, front and back and spray it and then run the window up and down a couple times to spread it out. If it does come off again the best adhesive to use is 3M panel bonding adhesive, it will never come off and most of the time it is stronger than what the factory used. I used it on my driver side window and had no problems since. The best thing to do to prevent it is lube the window tracks like I said and make sure you don't try to open the window if it is frozen, which I did and learned the hard way, I had to drive 10 miles into -10 degree weather with a open window lol.
The big part of my problem is I already cleaned the windows when I attached it the first time so I have lost the marks where the original window was lined up on the retainers.
I was surprised that the window regulator is only attached with silicone adhesive. I used window silicone normally used for house use. I was considering using gorilla glue. It is expensive but very strong. We have not lowered the window and are waiting the suggested two days for cure time. If window is frozen don't try to lower it.
