Gas tank strap

I got a new to me 1998 F150 a week or so ago but it got parked quickly when I realize the gas tank strap was broken. Did some searching on here and got some advice from some friends and found out that Ford has a recall on those....took it to a dealer today and they replaced the strap. GOT to love free. So anyone out there with a similar issue it's worth a trip to a dealer on this one.

Got the recall letter also.. Been holding off. Mine are not rusty or broken so i dont' know what to make of it. The letter states, Rust will cause the bracket to fracture.

Curious, yours didn't look rusty either

I had ONE rot out along the bottom. Both sides were stuck in the plastic insert and hoding it together. Had not dropped, but was rotted in half... How many have had two straps rot, and how many just one ? My 2001 with 235K miles had no rotting and lived in the country. My 2002 with 100K lived in the city till last year. Wondering if they had more salt on the road... but rest of the truck looked GREAT on the bottom !
