I just got a new to me 1998 F150 4.6L 4x4 and it has a hack job (install is horrible - hoses look like whoever installed them chewed the ends off with their teeth) of a CAI on it and I want to return it to the stock air intake.
Question is for you F150 peeps, is my best bet a junk yard/salvage part? I see some on Ebay but man I hate to do that - never know what you are really getting until it arrives so hoping I can find one local.
I think the local salvage yard would be your best bet. Second best might be to run an ad on Craig's list and see if you can find a sucker to swap with.
I would definitely go to the junk yard and get the whole set up, probably cheaper too. The hoses to Iac and valve cover, and plastic nipples, Iat rubber seal, maf mounting plate( internal) and boot, maybe a good air filter in it to start with. Maybe that missing bolt on throttle body cover, and oem battery cover. lol

Ok thanks for the input. I am guessing there are fair number of these engines in a yard not too far north of me, just will have to put my boots on and go look.
That bolt isn't in there because the CAI was installed by a moron and it's blocking the cover going all the way down, not sure what else the PO rigged up as I'm not familiar with this engine but if I find one in the yard I will get everything from the throttle body out and every hose attached to it.
Didn't even know there was supposed to be a battery cover. Will have to take some picture with me and compare.
Edit: and today I find the PCV valve pulled out of the valve cover and zip tied up to another hose. Now WHY would someone pull it out intentionally? It's what a $10 part.
That's a good question, being a smog device and doesn't care for it, positive crankcase ventilation is a good thing. Maybe he was thinking it was bad because he was using excessive oil, and hung it so it wouldn't suck up anymore oil. Maybe he thought the normal oil film in the intake was causing issues, that comes from the pcv. Hopefully you have caught all the hack jobs in that truck

It needs a few more things before I call her good for my winter DD that's for sure. I stuck the PCV back in and no change in performance so not sure his thought process, but then again he cut the muffler off a truck that has very little rust on it, so that says a lot to me.
Look at the brake fluid reservoir in my photo, stuff looks like oil not brake fluid.
