Hey guys,
I have to admit, I abused my old pickup a little to impress some buddies but peeling out a lot, and what i would do it floor it in reverse, slow down, and when it was still moving backwards by like 4 mph i would shift to forward and floor it so it would spin some more. I did that twice and then it occured to me, "this might not be very good for my transmission!"
After that, the tranny felt like it shifted really hard (like the whole truck would lurch) for like 10 miles afterwards, then was normal again. Maybe I was just imagining things. It's not leaking fluid or anything, but do you think I may have messed something up? And if so, what should I do?
cant say that thats nothin ive ever done, but the hard shifting transmission could be due to the valve bodies clogging. try a transmission flush and fill. or you could just think of it as a poor mans shift kit.
During the first month I had my 94' the tranny did strange thigns like that too, but I never abused it or drove it rough by any means.
All of a sudden one late night it would hard shift, and I mean HARD... bone jarring hard. It would drop into neutral on it's own just out of the blue.. I'd pull over, put it in park, then back in od and everything would be fine. It was also reluctant to go into o/d at 45mph, it would stay in 3rd until 50 or so then shift when it normally shifts at 45. All of this started out of nowhere just in one night.
We had it checked out and opted to not take any chances and have a rebuilt unit installed.
