Connect your vacuum gauge direct to the intake, tee in a existing line if you have too if don't have one that is capped off not used.

At idle should hold rock steady needle at 22hg, or very near it, everything in good shape no leaks / timing dead on.

I don't get how you make the smoke thingy work with the radiator fan blowing. We tried to use a cigarette years and years ago but the fan blows the smoke all over making it useless. Spraying WD40 and listening for a change in idle speed is the best way I have found.

The engine isn't running during the test, smoke is pumped into the intake and floods into all related hosing under light pressure (block throttle body off), any source causing vac leaks become readily apparent as the smoke leaks out any place air can be drawn in.

OK, I get it, the way a guy tried to show me was to move the cigarette around the hoses and such and the smoke would be drawn into the leak, but the radiator fan kinda made it not work so well. So, with the cigar, you are supposed to blow smoke into a vac hose and see where it comes out?

Yea that's what I pictured in my mind with the Cigar test not going to work very well unless block off all air from fan. Well it was either that or connecting to large vac line let it puff a stogie!

Today vac reading at 8hg running at 55 level ground, was towing small trailer with 4x4 quad on it, probably 1000lbs trailer and quad.

I took the gauge out pitched it back in the tool box, go nuts with one of them things in the cab!
I'd rather not know then play that game, try keep vacuum value high as much as possible, I'd rather just drive the dang thing not worry about it.

scrobbie,

Yes "20hg" is perfect.
