Moving my Slick

I have lived in Tucson three times. 65-66,70-72, 05.

I have never been able to stay.

An opportunity has come up for us to permanently relocate there sometime in the next 2-6 months.

We may have to pay moving expenses, but maybe not. If we do have to foot the moving bill what is the better choice?

Tow the 65 Mustang behind a U-Haul on a trailer and ship the F100, or the other way around?

I have no idea the cost of shipping a vehicle, its about 1800 miles.

If I cant afford to take both, I will have to sell the F100.

I can replace the F100 far easier than I can the Mustang. The Mustang has about 15k in upgrades, the F100 about 2k.

I would guess it would be cheaper (in terms of shipping costs) for you to ship the Mustang and trailer the truck. I was checking with a shipping company (Total Car Shipping, 1 (800) 516-5569) about shipping a '63 Galaxie from Atlanta to Tucson - about 1800 miles - and they quoted me $875 - $925 in an open carrier, about $300 more in a closed carrier. The bigger the vehicle being shipped, the more it costs. Apparently they bid out the vehicle being shipped to independent truckers who have the right equipment and the right reputation. Can't speak for other shipping company practices. Sizewise, your truck is probably a little bigger than a Galaxie, and the Mustang is obviously smaller. Hope this is of some use to you.

The wife doesn't want to let her Mustang out of sight.

On the other hand, if I tow the truck I can keep my spare 390, tranny, disc brake set up and a bunch of other large bulky parts that I can haul in the bed.

We have a second 65 Mustang that is not as nice as the keeper that we are going to have to sell. I have a bunch of parts for that as well.

Now is not the best time to move, but Im not going to pass on a chance to move to Tucson if it presents itself.

Be careful shipping open carrier unless you plan on camping out with your vehicle. The first night they park in front of the sleazy 8 motel your car will be stripped.Go covered when shipping a vehicle worth something. You would not believe how much some of the little trim parts cost to replace the ones stolen off of this simple 47 convertible.
