My mindset is a person should buy a diesel/gas/electric/hybrid/solar powered/Dilithium crystal powered...whatever powered....rig they want, because that's what they like. Not because they can justify the cost, or because they think the diesel is better at towing, or because they think the gasser costs less to maintain, etc, etc.
As long as you can afford it, buy what you like and you'll be happy!

Reason: corrected my misspelling in the quoted post
I'm not sure, but I'll find out. I know that it's factory because when my truck was repainted, we ordered new moldings from ford that come painted. They came with the chrome. The bad thing is that when they painted my truck, the ******* that prepped it used mineral spirits on the door jambs and wiped the door label clean of all markings. I have no idea what any info is now.
Also, mine came with the clear jeweled headlights and clear markers. The only thing I can think is my X is a late 01 build? Is there anyway the build date and other info can be had by the VIN number?
