Advice/Input

I have am 06 250 super duty 4x4.

I had a no start and got that fixed with the replacement of the LPOP. While I was at it I did the Blue spring as recommended.

I am looking now into the EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler. And figured if I am going to spend the cash might as well do it all, right so, this is what I am thinking of doing. Let me know what you all think and or recommend.

Bullet Proof Engine Oil System with Bullet Proof Oil Filtration, Heavy Duty Cooler

BulletProof EGR Cooler

High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) Connector Fitting Upgrade Kit

ARP Head Studs
Head Gasket
Fuel Injector O-Ring Kit
Rocker Carrier Gasket
Coolant Thermostat

EDGE Insight CTS Data Monitor
SCT SF3 Ford Power Flash Tuner

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

A little more info please.

What do you plan to do with the truck, Tow, haul heavy loads, daily driver, ect. ?

How many miles?

Do you know what your ECT and EOT are and this is the reason for the oil cooler change?

Being in the Republic of Panama will the truck be used there long term? What is the climate like?

You can't go wrong with the things you have outlined. You also may want to do a coolant flush. I don't think I would go with the Bullet Proof oil cooler unless I have to. I think these are kind of pricey.

Just my opinion.

It is used for long drives. 45 min is the shortest drive, trailers no, but I do use it for construction materials and equipment. I am sure one day I will need to haul a trailer with a backhoe but as of yet no need.

I have 284K on it now.

I have an over heat problem it over heated 2 times and no coolant in the bottle. pointing to the EGR cooler. EGR valve replaced while looking around noticed wetness and was recommended to replace the EGR cooler. while reading on here most that change the EGR cooler recommend the Oil cooler change at same time.

it is hot a humid here. afternoon showers this time of the year showers are hard and heavy and almost all day long.

I am looking at doing things to prevent anything else from happening and losing down time as this is my only transportation at the time.

So you want it to be a reliable work truck, that's good.

It would be nice to have the monitor now so you can confirm oil cooler health. You need to compare EOT and ECT. What happens is the oil cooler clogs and starves the EGR cooler of coolant which blows the EGR cooler. When EOT gets too much hotter then ECT it shows the oil cooler is clogging/failing and needs replaced.

You also need to check condition of the cooling system. Drain coolant into a clean bucket and see if it has any contaminants, dirt, sand ect. It is recommended to do a chemical clean and flush before oil cooler replacement. If the system is really bad then I would consider a Bullet Proof oil cooler.

Also with that mileage you may want to replace the hydraulic lifters. This would require engine rear cover removal which is easiest with engine removed.

OK I called Bullet Proof and got a quote for everything but they need the Production date. I do not have that with me. So called the garage where it is at and the Mech is not there at the time.

I think I will just go ahead and BP it then look for the Hydo lifters and radiator for the first part of next year.

Any thing else I should look at doing?

Not sure what else I can do to it..but this will be my truck, already started looking for another 6.0 unless I see an offer I can not pass up.

Thanks for the help.

You pretty much have it covered in post 1. Only other item that I can think of is Stand Pipes & Dummy Plugs. If you are getting Ford OEM head gaskets the stand pipes are included. The Dummy Plugs you would need to purchase.

I am a believer in having gauges to monitor what is gong on, I just wanted to stress that point. Also regular maintenance very important, clean oil and coolant, fuel filters changed, water separator drained ect ect.

Sorry no one else gave there opinion, normally a lot of folks here willing to give there $ .02 . The best I can tell you is to search this forum. Tech folder also has very good info.

Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

One thing I would do is add a coolant filter, other than that, you appear to have a good list of mods.

If you can, delete the egr system instead of buying a bulletproof egr cooler.
Also do a good cleaning of the intake manifold.
Turbo could use a cleaning at the same time as well.

Got everything on order now and hope to have it this week.

I also went and got their EDGE Inight CTS

display 5 different parameters, including Engine Oil Temp (EOT), Engine Coolant Temp (ECT), Transmission Temp, and Exhaust Gas Temp (EGT) I have the EGT probe for this.

The turbo is new so it has been taken care of.

Will look into the coolant filter.

I have new stand pipes and dummy plugs. so that is a easy fix for that. I had bought them prior and have them here already. I did that the same time I purchased fuel, air and oil filters. Bought 4 sets so I had filters on hand.

once this is done I will be looking to the inside as well..want to upgrade the radio and maybe add a CB.
