So today pulling out of the gas station I turned my steering wheel to the left and I heard a high pitch squeal from the drivers side. It wouldn't do it again unless I was just creeping, nothing going down the road. I did a few searches on here but they all are if the truck is moving say 30 mph or better. I know I need to replace my ball joints. 99 F250, V10, 4X4, extended cab. Any help would be great!
Was the squeal happening while you were turning the steering wheel, or after you turned the wheel but the truck was turning, or while you were rolling forward?
I had let off of the brake, creeping forward barely on the gas and started turning left leaving the gas pump. I had the wheel almost full left. I then got on the interstate for about 30 minutes and once I got off I couldn't make the truck squeal again.
Thanks y'all! I just looked at the belt and it looks pretty worn. I tried to get bit to make the noise again but it wouldn't. I'll replace the belt and tensioner, it's due and hopefully that fixes it. Thanks again
I agree with the others, especially when putting significant pressure on the power steering unit when fully cranked, however, if it doesn't go away, not a bad thing to check your brake pads and wheel bearings just to be safe.
You can get a squeal if these need help, especially just starting to move.
It does need new pads that I'm going to do in a few weeks and I'll be doing the bearings when I do my ball joints and uv joints after Christmas.
Those small squeal sensors when brakes get low help to bring it to your attention and many times it happens as stated above, just starting out.
Let us know what you find.
