I have been looking for a 70s f-series pickup. I had my eye on a few, but everytime I would stop to ask if they were interested in selling it, they would say no. Finally I found this one about a 1mile from my house. I stopped by and offered the guy 500.00. He said sure, He even pulled it out of the woods for me. I had a friend of mine tow me home with my 2008 f150... Would of made a good picture. The truck has a 400m with a C6. This is going to be a long term build. I have had the truck sine may 2013. Here is a few pictures of it the day I brought it home.
The inside was really nasty, so I pulled everything out, opened both doors and got the leaf blower out. I also powerwashed the truck and engine.
Some decided that it would be a good idea to put red house capret in it. That smelled awesome.
I pulled the tank and carb to clean it and just see if truck would start and run, The tank was in bad shape so I still need to get a new tank and sending unit.
I need some steel rims with not alot of offset because I wanted to lowered the truck and the wagon wheels had too much. The guy I got the truck form had a 60s in the woods and said if i feel like taking them off I can have them.. Nice deal
Got her lowered and found a 50 dollar bed cover on craiglsit. When I got it home I realised it was missing one of the corner pieces. So I made one out of wood and painted it black. I also deleted the stake holes in the bed.
Also had to pull hte bed away from the Cab, it was bent into it.
Got it all primed, Still needs lots of body work but I wanted to get it all primed so I fix places and touch it up. Also got the the center caps trim rings in.
Also got in all my brake supplies, Have not found the time to put them on yet.
Just a few pictures of my progress!
Did some more cleaning... wires that went no where..
Got the Grill painted and put back on, still need a new bumper.
Found a tailgate, bumper and two doors with not rust or dents, Been working on them some.
Thanks Everyone, I really enjoy looking at this site, lots of nice trucks and loads of info. Yes I did get it running, runs pretty good, its got about 300,000 but its good enough for now.
Ugh, if I had a dollar for all the new parts I'd like to put on my truck..
..I'd still be short $9,873.54.
It's good to see some new life breathed into a great truck. I've been overdue for some brake and suspension work for a while now.. This gets me thinking. Good work!
Finally, the last few weeks I have been able to work on the truck some more. Got the dash torn apart and repainted black, I painted the guage needles with flouresent orange paint, I like the way they came out. Also installed the new to me dash pad, New radio, Speaker because the other one was shot in the picture as you can see.
Put a new alt on along with temperature and oil pressure sender to get all the guages working. Also cleaned up the engine some. This is not the forever motor... but want to make it look decent for now.
Before I painted the needles
After
I ran out of silver paint for the trim, so thats not finished yet
Put the new Rear window seal in this weekend, painted the door panels and removed the steering wheel to give it a good cleaning.. was pretty nasty. Still have not finished the silver paint. Also got all my Lights working and fixed.
Great job so far. Reminds me of when I did mine 15 years ago. Bought a junker just for parts and wound up redoing it. Now I have two '79 f150's. I am in Md. also, Camp Springs area. Keep up the good work!
