Hello everyone. I am brand new to this site today. I have been looking for a great Father/Son project, a 1971 F250 was the choice. I was looking for something that my son and I could work on together and just enjoy the time. The truck we are starting off with is running but does need some much needed work and I figured this would be a great place to get some ideas and also help point me in the right direction. Anyone that give me a good head start would be greatly appreciated. I just got my LMC catalog so now it starts!!
That's interesting because I am doing the same thing. My oldest son (of 4) is 13 and I thought it was about time to get a Father/Son/Son/Son/Son project to spend some quality time with them. Our truck is a 1972 F-250 4wd "highboy". It will, eventually, be my oldest son's truck when he is old enough to drive. I will then get another project for the next Son in line.
As for your truck, congratulations! Just make sure it is a fun project and doesn't turn into a miserable event for both of you. I have done some research online and have had dealings with LMC myself on other projects. Just be aware that there are many other, better resources for parts out there. I think we have 5 or 6 catalogs from companies that sell parts for these trucks. Good luck and have fun.

STOP! There are other better vendors besides LMC...I suggest you visit the Parts & Vendors list at the bottom of this post and order their catalogs - most are free. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post13139591
LMC has a hit and miss reputation cost- and quality-wise. Plus some parts cost ALOT at LMC while others offer it more reasonably and of better quality.
The link above also has tech and info on upgrades that are applicable to both Bumps and Dents. And if going whole hog with a teardown and rebuild, then this is a thread ya gotta read and consider: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...p-by-step.html
Well I am going to be the opposing opptimist. Sorry John. I say Horray for you and your son(s). I also started the same deal with my son and the 1955 F100 he wanted. It would have turned out as killer as yours will except for my Divorce and them moving way on the other side of Phoenix metro. No money then. No ticky no laundry. So I say have fun you and mainly the oldest learning and accomlishing things together. JUST STAY MARRIED!!!!
Hey guys, I really appreciate the heads up. It was pretty overwhelming looking at every little item that is needed and I figured I would be dumping a fortune in to this thing. Glad to hear that there are other vendors in the market place. Ya, on some items it has turned out to be a father more than son project but all in all, I've really enjoyed it. My father and I haven't always had the best relationship; he is an old Ford guy and loves the idea and we have even had a chance to rebuild our relationship in the process. The truck may be a blessing in disguise. It may turn into a grandfather/father/son project. Nothing like some quality wrench time under the hood. Thanks again for the input guys. I'll post pics and keep everyone updated. Actually, I did have one question; the steering wheel has a ton of play in it and I have heard a couple different items would fix the problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!!
Ah Mr. Jeff, you state slightly different, "the 1955 F100 he wanted". That can make for a different story. As for staying married, I'm still working on that, my project started Thanksgiving day 1969. I can't bear the ideal of another woman trying to break me in again. I know where my socks are, where to sit at the table, where the coffee pot is.
Adam, The rag joint (where the column & gear box connect) is likely the big culpret on slop. Inexpensive but a little challenging to swap. You won't loose by getting grandpa involved with your sons. My oldest grandson is 5 so I am waiting to see what projects lay ahead.
Sorry, I must be a little slow. I would like to see where I can get those other catalogs that you mentioned but I can't seam to find where I can order them. I clicked on the link and I still cannot seam to pin them. Please help!
