truck smokes going down road
the turbo doesn't whistle like it used to
lose of power
and my local mechanic thot that was what it is.
he said i could pick up a rebuilt one for 1k
and
could s.o. refer me to a DIY source on how to
replace it?

It might be good to verify the up pipes to the turbo are not leaking first - any soot around the up pipes where they connect to the turbo or on the firewall? A boost leak check would be good as well. Search for "boost leak detector" for good info. Is the air filter clean? What type of filter are you running?

You may be able to rebuild it and save yourself some money. Depends n what is wrong with it. Pull your intake off and see what your intake wheeel looks like. Check and see if it spins freely, if there is any side to side movement of the shaft(bad).

i'm the one that had the problem w/the engine dying going down the road!
took out the 'super chip'
and it's run great for the past 15k miles
