Look for the valve cover sticker that is the one my smog guy checks for. And like Stewart said '02 7.3 auto do not have cats so don't put one on because I guarantee they will fail you on the visual just because.
Tomorrow ima look everything over again before work. It only smokes when flooring it sitting in park or neutral. Ima pressurize my inner cooler pipes but would a failing turbo wheel cause lack of air volume forced in the engine? Like I said before it runs like a dream no issues
The smoke is a judgment call. You should of went with the ref at CARB. I had a problems years back with a car from Washington that DMV didn't want to register. They said it had Fed smog only on it. Well that got done after going back in forth because
it was legal on the day of sale. My son in law was in the service so he was legal to buy a car any where. All our trucks will throw out some black smoke at wide open throttle when tested. I'd like to see a picture of yours.
Went to smog today and a check engine light appears when on "Low fuel" tune. Hopefully Jodi can tweak it ... I'm get token to that point where I just say F it! And put truck up for sale
Now the truck does everything right to pass the test but the guy said he wouldn't pass it because it didn't run right... That it would only rev to 2200 and go 20 mph... I was furious but he would not give me any paperwork and I did not sign anything so I can't sue. Jody is working on a different tune for me
I can see the RPM but he shouldn't be driving it. How did he know it only went 20mph? Just get a no smoke tune that you can drive. And don't go back to the same guy. I go to a smog only station and they never red line the tack anyway.
I went to smog school a handful of years ago. Your best bet is to go to a shop that is geared towards diesels. Vdub performance shops and the like that also smog or ask them who in your area they go to.
The only other thing I would say is smog it on a windy day. The opacity test is truly a crock- it leaves too much to discretion. As we know they don't do smogs for gas engines the same as diesel. In school they told us we needed a sheet of plywood painted white as our test equipment. More bs. How is that a test? How many shops actually have that?
Find a drive through smog shop in your area, go on a windy day.
All good guys, ima problably get a new tune and take it to a different shop out of town or go to one down by my parents house that knows the nature of the beast. Not so liberal
Yup, gotta find a shop that knows diesels/likes diesels. I had to go to 7 different shops in the inland empire to even find one that would even start to smog mine due to my modded intake and exhaust. Even though my mods (the intake and exhaust at least) are 100% legal per carb. I think its criminal that these shops that are supposed to be enforcing the laws dont even know them.
So, did you ever figure out the problem?? I have a Stacked chip and have no issues with smoke and smog-ed just fine..
Oh, and how do you like that DP? I was thinking of dumping my set-up and going that route..Sounds like good customer service??
