I met Preston at a Harrah's swap meet in the mid '70's. We took several trips together, buying obsolete parts from dealers in the Central Valley.
The "cream of a lifetime" came from the former Ford Dealer in Winters. The owner (E. J. Graf) had died, his granddaughter took over the biz without notifying FoMoCo.
When FoMoCo found out, they cancelled the franchise, awarded it to the local Chrysler/Plymouth dealer. Granddaughter took down the two 1930's double sided Ford porcelain/neon signs, beat on them with a sledge hammer, ended up in a dipsy dumpster. Graf's 'Model T' sized one car showroom had parts bins that contained over 500 new 'war surplus' 1941/48 V8 dizzies. Graf had every 1916/1977 Ford shop manual and parts catalog, obsolete parts for Model T's & A's, and piles of other obsolete parts thru the 1960's.
It took my pickup w/a camper shell...pulling a rented U-Haul box trailer and Preston's flatbed to haul it all away. Just before we left, informed granddaughter the signs she ruined, were worth 5 grand each.
