The majority of us use custom programs from SCT, a flash tuner, for increased shifting and power. If you do not have head studs, it is not recommended but some programs are written for that purpose.

I use an SCT flash tuner in my '05 Ex 6.0. I ordered a custom SRL, 8k lb tow and Unlimited Tow tune package from Matt @ Gearhead. I have never looked back! The SRL tune is made for non-studded engines and provides enough power for my Ex to run a 14.15 1/4 mile at 94.4 mph (with turbo back and air filter only). It is legit! It was a big improvement over the canned SCT tune. I saw my mileage increase around 1-2 mpg.

I too would recommend Gearhead Automotive. My 6.0 is off having some repairs done (bad oil and egr cooler) and improvements made, but every 6.0 owner who has his tunes, are beyond words impressed and satisfied with the end result.
