Preditor Tuner Blues

I purchased the preditor tuner about 7 months ago, from Ken here and also got the 4 inch exhaust. The 80Hp program has never worked correctly. When emailing diablo, they said they were working on correcting the "known" issue. The 60Hp program seems to work ok but the throttle response is very poor until I reach about 2000rpm, EGT's are too high for towing. The other day I was pulling my 3 horse gooseneck trailer loaded with 140 chairs, and 30 6ft rubermaid folding tables. (with the tow tune installed) Just got married and was halling the stuff back to the rental place. Was in a right side lane that was "exit" only and needed to get ahead of a group of cars to change lanes to the left. Had my foot to the floor and wasn't gettting any power/acceleration. Where as with the factory tune I'd at least have enought to get ahead of the cars. I honestly think this thing programer is a joke, I think my truck tows better with the factory tune. Have any of you folks had a negative experience with the preditor tuner? I mainly want the extra power for towing. This thing hasn't impressed me yet. Any suggestions, should I pitch it and get a Superchip tuner? OR Something Else?

I don't tow anything heavier than around 10,000 lbs and I've never had a problem with the EGT's. Of course thats on the 60 hp tune, I don't tow at all on the 85 or 100. It also runs great on the 60. I cant say that i have had any problems other than a few no start issues that were corrected with a forced back to stock with the tuner. I would send it back to diablo and have it updated. But hey these trucks are all different, and maybe your truck will be more receptive to another revision or even another tuner. Truth be told, If i were you I would consider a flip chip over the tuner since your probably close to the end of your factory warranty if not already.

I forgot to mention that I was not impressed at all with the tow tune, it made no noticible difference in power or lower temps than from stock. Good luck.

Thanks for the imput. I'm mostly impressed with 60hp when empty. But like you and I both said. The 60hp tune and a loaded horse trailer aren't good for EGT's not to mention the lack of low end tourque especially when trying to take of from a stand still on an incline, have to wind out the low gear pretty good before I shift to 2nd. So what is a flip chip and how would it make my truck a better tower? 2000PSD w/ 119K.

a flip chip is a computer chip that actually installs in the computer, it does the same thing as a reprogrammer, but it is hard mounted and most of the later chips come with several setting like the tuners. The difference is that with the chip, you can actually select different programs while you are driving the truck. Lets say you are running around on a 50hp program with the chip and it isn't enough you flip the switch up one to say 75 or whatever the next setting is. Or if your egts get too high on one setting, you can flip the switch back down a setting or two. The hp gains between the tuners and chips are pretty similar, the difference is convenience. The chip allows you to select whenever you want without pulling over and doing the whole reprogram process.

A chip may or may not make it tow any better, I only meant that you may have better luck with a different programmer or chip and that with a chip you can adjust it instantaneously to your driving needs going down the road. That in itself makes it a better towing power enhancement.

Maybe you misunderstood my post, but what i ment about the 60 hp tune is that I have no EGT issues whatsoever running that tune, but its probably because the most I've ever pulled was around 10,000 lbs. It towed it fine with Egt problem.

Well said. Thanks to you I now understand the Flip Chip concept. So switching between HP on the fly doesn't damage the engine or eletronics at all? I can see where the advantages would be with a flip chip, have you heard of the TS Flip Chip?

i've heard of it but know nothing about it. And no switching on the fly will not damage anything...
