OK this is what i have, a 1970 f250 4x4 camper special 3 inch body lift. It has been upgraded to power steering but was poorly done. They welded the steering wheel to the column. the steering shaft is being held up by wire. They welded a U-joint to the gearbox......it steers poorly and is not road worthy. Should i just go back to manual steering. whats going to be the most cost effective? does anyone sell manual steering kits columns to gear box? Most def in need of some advice. I bought a new(junkyard column) not sure how I'm going to connect it to a new power steering gear box thanks guys for all the help.(not even sure that's the right pitman arm or what year this stuff came from) photos below.
It'll cost ya a bit just to get it back to being driveable so why not add the dollars to do the PS conversion correctly? Do the math...I think penciling it out will show that it is cost effective since the steering system is not roadworthy anyway.
HIO , you have a good point there....but then id be spending 300 more dollars then I paid for the whole truck. It seems like that is the only system out there though. Hmm how exactly would that intermediate shaft attatch to the junkyard column I just purchased? I guess ill keep doing more research. Would that system work with the 3 inch body lift? Any cutting involved to the frame or is it just bolt on? Thanks for your time.

Thanks ...but with that perspective then ya might as well use it as a parts truck and get a rig with less problems. Every rig will have its issues. It'll either nickel and dime or take big bites outta your wallet. Same. Same... Pay now or pay later.
I dunno about your questions... I don't do body lifts and I do my own engineering. Homework!
What do you mean steers poorly? Too much play in the linkage or wheel? Or does it drift all over the road?
It looks like they started out ok, But then must not have had any hand nuts & bolts to finish the installation so they got a real bright idea from uncle Bubba to just welding everything together.
Please give us more detail of what's going on. We can see how Mickey Mouse it was all done. These early fords had real squirrely as it was like most early P/s was..orich
