trying to remove the steering column on 64 f250 4wd, no rag joint on this 4wd loosened up clamp at box and dash? what next?
There is no rag joint on anything until 1965, then 2WD only until 1976.
The steering shaft extends down the column, then goes directly into the steering gearbox, so it's basically a one piece assembly.
First, you have to remove the Pitman Arm from the steering box sector shaft, so you'll prolly need a Pitman Arm puller aka "pickle fork" to do it.
Once you pull the assembly, then you have to disassemble the steering gearbox to remove the steering shaft.
I suggest you stop what you are doing, get a shop manual. Once you open up the steering gearbox, if you don't know what you're doing, you'll mess it up.
thanks for info have not goten to far into it
need to remove cab can lift it over column?
sounds like that would be easer
not sure what manual to use
You could use any service manual from 61-66 as long as you are looking at 4wd and F250 they are all the same animal under the skin as far as frame and steering goes. 65-66 difference is in the power plant. Google gemmer steering box see what comes up just a suggestion as I havent done that myself. F350 uses the same steering too.
