Hello I'm new to this site.
I have a question about alternator. I just recetly bought a new alternator and my old one that came with the van, which I bought used its alternator has (I don't remember exactly the amount of grooves) but its over 6 grooves. It has 10-11 grooves and all the pulleys have the same amount. I was told at the parts store that my van with matching VIN comes with 6 grooves not 10 or 11 that I removed from the van. The parts person matched up the same alternator to mine and put on my pulley. Would this cause me another problems? As long as the voltage meets up I shouldn't have any problems, right?
Since I got back the van and drove it for 3-4 days its has loss of power when I try accelerating with lack of power. I just got it home today(after towing it) while sitting for about 30-45 minutes I started it up and it raved up and power restored for about 1 minute while driving it it drove with power than slowly began loosing acceleration again. Any ideas?
Is it something else? Could the mechanic pinched wireless or is the alternator thing a coincidence?
It sounds like a coincidence. It should be putting out between 13 and 14.5 volts when running. You might try unhooking the battery for about an hour to reset the PCM.
Have you scanned it to see if there are any stored codes?
Because if the gas cap doesn't vent properly, the fuel tank will go into a vacuum as the fuel is pulled out and the engine eventually starves for fuel.
