Well its been a while since I've been on here but I need some help. I am a mechanic, and I've worked on a ton of 6.0, and I own 2. But I ran across a problem thats kinda got me confused, and I'm trying to save some time because the owner doesn't have much money to spend. The truck started with the warm no start. Then it started to skip some what. Well at first I was thinking a leaking oring on stc or pump or dummy plug, but then it was starting with no problem, but still skipping. Well I checked the icp pressure, and tested the ficm and did a contribution test. Well the right bank showed all cylinders having a problem. After this the guy needed to leave, and had to take the truck. He called me, and told me it quit on him. So I went to the truck, and it fired up no problem. Well he has been driving it two days now with no problem, but it smokes terribly while accelerating. (Black smoke) but runs out fine. Any ideals or suggestions?
From your post it seems that you are talking about a 6.0L engine, and in this case you posted in the wrong forum. I'm moving this one down to the 6.0L Powerstroke forum, you should get some more replies down there.
Sounds like an injector stuck open. Park it and crawl under it and look for fuel at the exhaust manifold where it meets the block. If you see any fuel seeping out, that injector is dumping fuel.
