Bronco questions: Windows/Fumes

I have an '85 Bronco. The passenger window got stuck halfway up and the drivers side window won't budge either.

I'm wondering if there is a window lock button that I'm not aware of ... OR if there's a way to get this window back up. It's gonna rain in the next few days.

The other question is in regard to the VERY intense fumes coming from this truck. When the windows are down, the problem is considerably less offensive, but if I so much as crack the windows, it's full on very intense, very sweet smelling exhaust. Gives my girlfriend a major headache. Makes me dizzy.

I've called my mechanic and he says it's an old truck and I will smell exhaust fumes. But is it supposed to be so bad that I can't put the windows down?

the window motors are perhaps shot or a fuse is out.

regarding the exhaust smell, it sounds like you have an exhaust leak. does your exhaust exit out the stock location behind the passenger rear tire?

Thanks so much!

I'll call my mechanic tomorrow to ask about the exhaust leak. Any idea how much that'll run me?

Do these 80s broncos have a heavy exhaust smell in general?

well your 85 is carbed i suspect? more info about your rig would be very helpful such as engine size, carb or efi etc...

if the carb is running rich the exhaust fumes will be really bad. you also didnt say how your exhaust was ran.

yes, carbed.

duel exhaust behind the rear tires.

so if the truck is carbed, then the exhaust fumes are normal? because i have one major headache whenever i drive it.

I suspect an exhaust leak, Duals are not stock on that rig and most dont run duals on their broncos.

I would do a full tune up on the bronco and possibly have the carb rebuilt.

spoke to the mechanic. he said if it was the catalytic converter or the O2 sensor, the check engine light would come on. he said it's likely an exhaust leak or the air pump that i had installed (to pass the Washington, DC emissions inspection) needs to be tweaked.

If it has an oxygen sensor it is EFI so pull codes and check for exhaust leaks.

thats a good point. you should snap some pictures of your rig and post them up, take pics of the engine bay, and also the exhaust.

if you have a drive way, why not climb under the rig yourself and look for things. thats one of the best ways to learn. get a haynes or chiltons manual for further guidance or ask questions here.
