We just bought a new 2013 F150 Platinum 4x2 with 5.5 bed. Love everything about it except that we have noticed it bounces and/or vibrates a lot on concrete roads/highways. Dealer admits this is an issue with truck, but won't admit any design flaw, and has suggested Bilstein shocks as well as putting 300+ lbs in the bed. We've heard from the Sales Rep, Svc Mgr and Svc Advisor that they've done similar things with their trucks to overcome this problem. Before we invest more $$$ into a fix, we are looking for any tried and true solutions from other like-truck owners. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the link, Tim. Not much there as it relates to a solution; just more of the same it seems with Ford not addressing the real issue and offering a fix.
Any thoughts on new shocks? Reps at the Bilstein stores are confident (but won't offer a guarantee) that they'll improve the ride substaintially... $700 to $1000.
We also experienced bounce and vibration.....it was the junk 20" Pirelli tires that was on it! Traded them out for Michelin AT/2's never had a problem. Truck had less than 2k on it.....
I have 17" wheels on a 2011 Supercrew 4x4 5.5 box.
Any small bump or jolt makes the bed shake. When I run over one manhole it feels like I went over 3 of them.
I installed Bilstein HD shocks and these (1801) http://www.hellwigproducts.com/produ...elper-springs/
springs for towing/hauling.
It helped a lot when empty - BUT - the bed still shakes some.
Weight at the back of the bed eliminates the shake.
X2 on ditching the 20" wheels and Scorpions.... More sidewall= more cushion (not to mention better off road, but you have 2wd, so not a big issue I assume). Personally, I am not a fan of bigger wheels aesthetically either.
