I would say we may be missing some very valuable knowledge. Sure some people may be a bit hard headed or be a little different but those same people may also be some of the smartest people here and very valuable. I agree some may be way out of line and need to be dealt with.

I am guilty myself of going off line more than a few times and I am grateful that mods were lenient on me.

Years ago there was a falling out at a honda forum and pretty much all the most reputable and most knowledgeable people left the forum, I also left it after being a member for 10 years never to return. It used to have amazing people and cars and work being done. Now it is all just painting valve covers and people asking how to instal an intake. Just saying it 'can' be bad for a forum to be to strict on its rules.

Exactly...

I once spent alot of time in this forum, all over it, including the ot's.. Heck I started a few.. I learned the people here, and enjoyed the company of the group, the more I got to know them ( through the ot's) the more I hung out..

Now, I visit, I read, I move on.. I contribute where I can..but I am not nearly here as much as I use to be. Cookie, you know the group we lost.. you really consider that a plus?

That's how it works for everybody. Virtually none of the group that started here when I did are still here. Sooner or later every single one of us will lose interest and move on. Human nature.

I never said it was a plus. Quite the opposite. I hate to see the long time guys leave. Many of them are still my friends. My point was, and is, that when one gets to the point that he thinks the rules no longer apply to him..... Maybe it is time to press on.

Let me ask this question....... For anybody still reading this thread. Would it be helpful, or beneficial, or moral boosting if we brought back the OT thread. A single thread that would serve as the "campfire" for those days when you just want to bs and aren't necessarily interested in talking trucks?

When I get a hankerin' for a good debate, or want to go wayyy off topic, I usually hit the Members Only area. I say "usually" because I recently completely broke the rules when I obliged a friend's curiosity on my house remodel. Guilty as charged, your honor. I'd file the Prius/Powerstroke pageantry under bending the rules... a little. My intent was to compare the two vehicles as to how they were so opposite, yet complimentary to each other - hence "dichotomy" in the title. It got playful and drifted away from topic for the bulk of the thread, but I made an effort to pull it back over the line.

I agree the forum can get crowded with facebook-type threads if left unchecked - we're human. If this was a string of OT threads with an occasional tech thread, key word searches would bring more hoopla than help (more blue pills than blue ovals) - and fewer folk would find function in the forum.

Thats a good question Sir.. I know in the past, it was requested to remain in the 7.3 forum, I know some complained, but the answer was always the same, "then dont stop in"

You Sir were stuck in the middle of the last one if I recall, and it was no fun for you then either.. sorry you have to go through it again..

I know the brotherhood still exist, its just like old friends, you dont HAVE to see them, or speak to them everyday, but it sure as hell is nice when it happens..For Moral, alot of people have recieved all sorts of support from this forum, so whether the moral comes now, or in a future need.. I think so..

Again, I know you paid hell the last time Scott, I will stand behind ya, no matter the way it goes ( you too Stewart).

that is a tough one Scott.
maybe try it on as a test to see if it will work and if it does not can it?

i was a bit leery about the ot thread in the 94-97 forum, but it has worked well with the exception of a few glitches.

Yeah. Definitely a glitch or two there early on. Seems to be working well now.

Honestly I'm not convinced this group needs one. They are quite good at policing themselves and the OT's are generally pretty specific and short lived. I just made the offer in case they want one.

I think we all get what you (Stewart and Scott) are saying, and we aren't disagreeing with you. Too many OT threads can jumble up the page, but I personally would not pay much attention to just one OT thread, I could see it spinning off into way too many sub-conversations and be really hard to follow.

We just like to come here and have that campy feeling sometimes with people we share common interests with, and I know you guys totally get that. I know I am not around here that much any more, but it still feels the same as it did when I first started, and I know that without a doubt, I can come here and find out what is wrong with my truck if something happens, and that is certainly the number one reason to come here. BUT, the relationships with people are almost equally important, an when I am away for too long, I really find that I miss that the most.

I miss the days of the old OT thread... And perhaps it wouldn't be the same as it was because of the amount of people here now that are newish. But I for one would love to have one back... And even though we all know the brotherhood that exists I feel it was because of the OT thread that it was so strong....
