Remember Stewart, we lost a good group of people the last time all OT threads were shut down. THey went as far as starting their own forum.. although short lived, most are now on facebook only. We lost good people, and alot of insight because of the loss of OT's.
I know it is your job, and I know this must be hard..
So, when one of us has a thought, many others of us in the silent majority may be thinking the same thing. And we are all in the 7.3L subforum, because we think alike in some respect.
In his most recent OT thread, Tugly demonstrated his approach to keeping (i.e., not selling) your 7.3L diesel, despite artificially high diesel prices which are pinching all of our pockets.
And as I said, that constitutes a spot on-topic and not an off-topic thread.
OT threads will follow changes in the fuel prices, the economy, and technical advances/improvements, etc.
And sometimes an OT thread can serve as a bridge.
For instance, I started my research into Prius which led me to the Ford C-Max, which I am now looking at. (Along with the Chevy Volt plug in which gets up to 38 miles electric battery-only.)
So, my personal opinion is that whenever a thread enlarges the knowledge pool, it helps us all, especially the subforum's silent majority.
And as long as an off-topic thread is clearly labeled "OT" there can be no confusion as to what you are getting into when you click on it. And if you don't want to click on it, don't.
Oh yeah, one more thing to the moderators. Don't treat us all equally. Because we're not. Give more OT latitude to the members who have given more to the forum. While I may not deserve any latitude, others who have posted valuable information, or who have contributed a well documented build or repair thread, or who go out of their way to help other members should get a lot of latitude. We need to keep them happy. Their continued inolvement is invaluable to this forum.

Reason: I forgot to say something.
I'd much rather see OT threads than 6 or 7 stickies at the top of the page.
And "just so no" to CSIPSD
For what its worth, I know Joe has rubbed some people the wrong way, but he's really a good guy. I got to meet him in person and have talked to him on the phone a few times whenever he's helped me with various problems.
Joe is opinionated and has trouble engaging the filter between his brain and vocal cords but he's a good man.

Stewart
That's the same impression I got.
I think if he was back, he and I would spar once in a while... but the gloves would stay on. I'd be a smaller target anyway... since the red font is gone.

That begs the question: If people get bent out of shape and leave simply because we ask them to follow the rules...... What are we really missing?

Agreed. There is no reason to label that an OT thread.

Possibly, but again, if they are discussed as it pertains to the 7.3 then it is on topic and has no need to be mislabeled as OT

I guess I completely missed the point on this one. How does starting a discussion about hybrids have anything to do with a 7.3 technical forum?

Think about that..... You are asking the mods to devise a rating system to decide on, and track which users are more "valuable" than the rest. Then the reward for for being more valuable is you don't have to follow the rules that we all agreed to when we signed up? Does that sound fair, or even reasonable? It's an impossible request even if the mods were willing....... and I can assure you we are not.
I do understand the sentiment that the veteran users deserve something in the way of recognition, thanks, and respect. I agree with that wholeheartedly, but deeming them more valuable than less senior users and allowing them to pick and choose what rules to follow isn't the answer.
This forum always has, and likely always will been given more leeway than other forums. This is because all three of the forum mods here came up through this forum. We know how you feel. We have threads about trannys, axles, rear ends, stereos, interiors, navigation..... you name it. It all flies because its hooked to the truck our beloved 7.3 is in. When one of our members gets sick or injured or dies..... those threads stay because our friends need us. When we get married or have babies we celebrate here with our brotherhood....... We freakin' get it dude.
All we have asked of this forum is to limit some of the extraneous BS "campfire" talk threads. Is that really so much to ask?

10-4. I agree with everything you said Cookie88, except for the fact that the members in this market place of ideas regularly use this forum's green chiclets to establish the "rating" system. As for me, I am too technically deficient to post in a technical thread. So, I guess I shot my wad OT here. But I don't mean an objective rating system. I meant a fair minded subjective determination that when a guy is or has contributed a lot to the forum, just cut him a little extra slack. That said,
