E4OD to ZF5

Alright, I know this subject has been beaten to death but I'm having a hard time finding exactly what I'm looking for. I have the truck in the sig and I cannot get the issues with the e4od figured out. I replaced the vss sensor and just spent almost $100 on fluid. Needless to say, I was on my way to the junkyard for some misc parts and it started acting up. I'm a little pissed but came across a jewel in the junk yard. It was a 4x4 zf5 behind a 5.0l in a 1991 f-150. This particular junk yard only charges $125 for a transmission. Now I'm wondering what I can use from the truck in the junk yard for the swap such as pedals and crossmembers and am not sure if the flywheel has to be changed or not. Can anyone shed a little light on this for me?

You will have to change a lot of things to go from auto to manual. For one, an auto uses a flex plate while a manual uses a flywheel. You would need a different starter, the list just goes on. If it were me, I would install your engine into that truck if all possible. Hope this helps

The truck's in a junk yard and they don't sell anything with a vin on it. I've put a lot of work into my truck and was planning the swap later but am forced to do something about the tranny now.

often the e40d just needs its electrical connectors cleaned or replaced.do you want to see if it's something we might be able to help you diagnose and repair for possibly free? why not right? just post your symptoms and codes.it might be something as easy as cleaning the solenoid pack plug.
if you would rather have a manual trans anyway and can afford the swap, then really there's nothing else that's going to make ya happy anyway.might as well just go ahead with it.still.it would be good to know if the trans works to sell and recoup some trans swap expenses.

The '91 F150 is most likely a Mazda 5-speed, not a ZF. You would be better to find a '93-'97 F250/F350 with a 5.8 (or 4.9 six). The pedal assembly from the '91 will not fit in your '96 either.

Okay, to start off, I got the years mixed up. The truck I pulled the tranny from today was an '89 f-150. The crossmember from the truck said 4x4 m5od on it but the tranny is for sure a zf5-42. I'm tickled pink. F250, I'll try cleaning the connectors like you said, but in all honesty, I've never really been happy with an auto tranny but I'll give em a shot. I pulled the tranny, crossmember (won't fit due to being from a 150 and mine's a 250), clutch and flywheel. Here's the odd thing. When I pulled the clutch off the flywheel, I noticed that only four bolts were holding the flywheel on because two of the holes wouldn't line up with the holes on the crankshaft. Also, would the clutch pedal assembly from the '89 work on my '96?

Also, can I just modify my crossmember? How much would be involved or do I have to get the f250 manual crossmember?
