Hey, guys. This is my first "build/swap" thread. I'm in the middle of swapping the e4od to a zf5. The e4od is out and I'm ready to bolt the new flywheel in but keep hearing about a spacer. I have a 351w and every time I keep hearing about the spacer, it's in a 7.3 thread. My question is do 351 windsors have the spacer when backed by the e4od also or just the 7.3's? I will have pictures posted of the swap after I'm done.
You should have a manual "block plate" to go in front of the zf5 but the auto one will work also. It's job really is to align the starter and for the dust shield to match up with the bottom of the bellhousing. It's the thin shield thing between the block and flywheel.
The spacer is an adaptor to go from the IH block to the ford trans on diesel applications only. The gas trans and motor do not require this.
Awesome. Thank you because that's exactly what I needed. Would you believe me if I told you I got the zf5 for $155? There's a 2wd zf5 in the junkyard too and I thought about grabbing it to turn and sell it but don't really know the demand for them.
Got some progress done today. The transmission is in! I gotta throw the transfer case, clutch pedal assembly, clutch line in and bleed it. I had to build the wiring harness though.
Yeah, I'm excited to be able to shift my tranny again. I learned how to drive with manuals. Some of my oldest memories are sitting next to mama while she would push the clutch in and tell me when to shift. Good times.
I love my truck. It's the best vehicle I've had period. Well, got a lot done today. The truck moves on its own. I've gotta finish shortening the front drive shaft, hook up the brake linkage, cut the hole in the vinyl flooring and fill the tranny with atf. Oh, and I've gotta finish covering and tucking up the wiring. I discovered a BAD fuel leak so I've gotta fix that, too. I'll post more pictures later.
