I have a 2000 F550 4x with a 7.3 Powerstroke. The engine starts and idles, no problem. The issue is that when I put the throttle down all the way, the "engine service" light comes on. So, after it has a chance to idle for a few minutes, I can just press on the throttle a wee bit and hold it and then the engine responds and I have throttle. But, if I back off I then have to do the light pedal thing again to get it to go.
The dealer said it was the pedal assembly and replaced it, but it started right back doing the same thing again. They conveniently did not keep the old part as requested, and refused to do anything about it. Had another diagnosis of a bad throttle control button, which I replaced, and again, didn't fix the issue. Wanted to take it to Galpin Ford, and their proprietary diagnosis starts at 500 dollars.
Lastly, there are no codes in the memory, go figure.
dose then engine change sounds? i might think you have a rusting fuel tank and it has clogged the intank filters. i have had 2 550 truck tanks rust. i would check the fuel psi on the fuel bowl. i think stock is 60-69psi.
Wow, out of all the things I haven't thought of. That's almost the way it feels, like it's maybe got just enough fuel to idle, but not enough to run, except when it becomes unclogged briefly. I'll check the psi at the bowl, thanks
Regarding the replaced pedal assembly, if you paid by Visa, Mastercard, or American Express, give them a call (not your back, call the card company). Often they warranty things like that. Say you didnt authorize the service with out the old parts returned and they didnt return the old pedal assembly.
It my state its a law that they have to keep the part if you want it, and I would have no trouble getting that charge wiped.
Great day in the morning! This fix you've shared looks like it fits, based on info gleaned during several diagnoses. Feels right, I'll post after I have a look, thanks!
So, I checked the shifter wire as per the photos Chris, and I see no evidence of fraying. However, when I disco'd the shifter wire to the OD button altogether, the problem of no throttle ALMOST disappeared. When I say almost, about 1 time out of 4 when I hit the throttle, it has that hesitation, and I can only get it back by feathering the pedal to the point where it would be at about a 1000 RPM and holding, then the throttle comes back. Better, but not where it needs to be. Haven't checked the PSI on the fuel yet, but it's not something I've done before. Any suggestions or links? BTW, I haven't met a more helpful bunch of people than here, and I really appreciate all the help, thanks!
