Hey guys, so I installed the 292 tonight on the '54 frame, lookin great:
Turns out the front motor mount off the fairlane was vastly different than the stock '54. it was way longer than it was supposed to be. No problem I removed the balancer, bolted on the original one (after the rust was knocked off and we welded up some extra support...)
As I begin to tighten the balancer back on, it hits the motor mounts and stops.
My balancer looks like this:
And I am assuming I need one that looks like this?
I have seen lots of Y blocks in trucks with the car pulley setup. Maybe some of the other members will post pictures to clarify.
Do you have the rusty engine in the picture? if so, you have the hard to find parts. I think the back belt lines up the same as your current setup. The front belt runs the fan which attaches at the top of the water pump. That is the same fan base used on the 48-52 flathead V8 pickups, so they are easy to find. If you have the rusty engine, just pull the parts you need from it and assemble away. I'd be very surprised if someone on here doesn't have the fan you need. Picture of the original fan and water pump here (the alternator looks to be in an unusual spot, not the stock location): http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...?ln=92&aid=465
The motor is a 1958 fairlane block, with 62 ford truck heads.
That's nice, but...how long is the double sheave balancer you have now?
Car: 1957 272/292 & 312 (w/o Supercharger) ~ 1958/59 292 could have come with a single (C3TZ-6312-E replaced B7AZ-6312-A) or triple (B5AZ-6312-B) sheave balancer.
