Do the big oring plugs in the back of the heads for sure. I did mine when the turbo and uppipes were out. I did all the ones in the valley too, but that's up to you. They aren't hard to get at.
I'm gonna be rebuilding one of the engines I have on a stand, and I'm gonna do studs, springs and push rods while it's on the stand. All the mods that I'm doing to my truck now will be transferred over to that engine and put in the truck, so I want it right when I drop it in. That's one of the reasons I'm not doing studs and springs now......the other is, I can't afford it now! LOL!!
Same plan here, bill. Do it all on the stand and not have to monkey around too much under the hood - hopefully!
Sounds like you have more of a plan than I do, though, so maybe I'll just copy all your work :-)
I figure the compression test and bottom engine inspection will tell me whether I've got a good base engine or not. Then I'll put my plan together from there. Definitely looking forward to the work, though!
Me too. I can't wait to tear that engine down and look inside it. The truck it was in had 328k on the clock, but that could have been 428k, who knows. I know it was ether was used on it a couple times, maybe more, but the last time they used it, they blew the stock air box to pieces. The truck ran, but not great, so I'm anxious to see the inside. I'm gonna go ahead and figure on a full rebuild though.
Thanks guys - looks like some good Monday morning reading...
And yeah, I was thinking it'd be good to do those big plugs. Front and back, right?
I didn't do the front ones, just the back while I could access them. When you do them, just get a whole new plug, not just the oring. It's only a couple dollars difference.
