oil cooler question

Hey guys,

I just finally got my scangauge 2 hooked up and checking out the readings. I've been reading that if the delta between the EOT and the ECT is more than 10-15* the oil cooler is getting plug and there is a potential for having problems real soon. I read somewhere on here I think, that to have a good reading for the temps to run the truck at roughly 1800 rpm (70mph) for about 15 minutes. I couldn't get a full fifteen minute run on it but I maybe got a 8-10 minute run on er. My EOT was 209 and my ECT was 191 and the Fan speed was around 500. I got the spreadsheets from Mark and both ECT and EOT are in the normal range. Also I got some other references from driving also. Around town (45mph max) I had 191 ECT and 202 EOT. I let it idle for about 10 and had 182 ECT and 193 EOT. Should I be worried about the oil cooler. Also my injector control pressure was reading 36 psi at 689 RPM is that to low, on Mark's sheet it looks like 45 was the min.

I'm getting ready to do an EGR delete and figure I might as well do this while I'm there if its bad or close to being bad. Also when I do that I'll probably instal a coolant filter and do a good flush also.

The truck is a 2006 f350 4x4 cc sb all stock except 4in turbo back exhaust and a metal intercooler tube from riffraff.

Thanks for the input
Andy

Temp difference is 18 degrees. I would say you definitely have a bad oil cooler. Before you replace it, do a full coolant system flush with Restore and Restore Plus. If you don't flush it properly, you'll likely be doing it again in less than a year.

Thanks Bill

Would doing a flush with restore and restore plus buy me some time-or help lower the delta- before replacing the oil cooler at the end of the month or is its just to far gone, either way its getting a flush this weekend and I'll probably do another one after the new cooler goes in. Also should I put in Fleetrite ELC coolant or another ELC coolant thats Cat-C1 approved.

You don't need to flush after you change the oil cooler. Install a coolant filter if you haven't already and the ELC coolant will perform well for you as long as it is a good quality.

Flush BEFORE changing the oil cooler, don't do it after or you'll be knocking crud loose in your system and plugging the new cooler.

Here is a photo of a water flush, and then of a Restore flush. Would you put a new oil cooler in without flushing first? You be the judge...
