Does this seem odd?

Took the truck into Tireman yesterday to have it aligned after changing ball joints. It took all day for them to align the front end. While I changed ball joints, I had to put a new caster/camber bushing on the passenger side. When they aligned it, neither side had enough adjustment to align, so they had to replace both bushings. (Its a 2wd twin I-beam with a 2" level). I asked them to save the bushing I just replaced so I could return it and get my $15 back.

When I picked up my truck, they said the alignment tech had broken one or two bushings trying to replace them and when I went to return the bushing I had paid for, it was broken and unable to be returned.

Any thoughts on this situation?

Also, looking down from my bedroom last night, I noticed a new dent in the roof of my truck. When I looked at it today, it looks like there is a rub or scratch all the way across the back edge with some paint missing. I don't have any photo proof that it wasn't like that previously, but as much as I'm in the bed of my truck, I do not remember seeing any of that before. Would that be worth pursuing?

Thanks!

Hi, sounds like you had a rough day hope it get's better!!!! as far as the broken part and I know it's your money that went to it but I like to think I would leave it alone purchase another one and this time inspect it before you leave the parts store so you don't loose your money again. I think if the shop broke your part they should replace or pay for it as a good faith buisness but it depends on the buisness, and as far as the dent on the roof not a battle worth fighting if you don't have proof that it was not thier before it would be really hard to get to the bottom of it and at the end all you are gonna do is irritate yourself. Hope this helps and Good Luck !!! Hope you have a great Day from now and on.

that roof damage could be from hitting something on the way up on the lift

That's what I was thinking when I saw the dent, and later the scratch along the edge. Maybe their tech was just being careless while putting the lift up. The dent didn't damage the paint, but I might need to do something about the scratch so it doesn't get down to the bare metal. It's just extremely frustrating.

I didn't have issues with them last time I had my truck in there. And I have a 3 year warranty, so whenever the truck needs realigned within that period, it's free.

And I know the part wasn't broken when I bought it, they had sent me the wrong one initially, so I inspected it at the store to make sure it was correct. And it definitely wasn't broken when I put it on the truck. In the grand scheme, at $15 part isn't a big deal. My main concern with that is that considering how easily those usually go on with the pinch bolt loosened and some light tapping into place, could they have caused damage to the upper ball joint? I'd imagine it takes a fairly significant amount of force to break the sleeves, and multiple ones at that.

Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, no fun. Just a chance you have to take! Best to forget it, and be glad you got a decent alignment out of it. That doesn't always happen.

my thoughts are this " that shop seems to have a careless work/disgruntled, probably did not pay attention to the position of your truck on the lift, for example about 25 yrs ago i witnessed a sears technician let a newer Cadillac roll off a two post lift right onto his toolbox because he was complaining that he wasn't paid enough, it was actually caught on tape and sent to corporate, needless to say he was fired. and second he probably used and air chisel on that shim because it was quicker. personally i'd talk to the shop owner and more than likely never use them again..... sorry that it happened to you but maybe your luck is about to change, right....

Almost looks like it was raised into something or an overhead door closed on it.

Well, I took it in to my mechanic today while I'm home over fall break. Just wanted him to double check my work replacing the ball joints. He said everything looked good there and didn't seem particularly concerned about the broken sleeves. He also showed me how easy it is to catch a truck on the door while lifting if you're not paying attention.
