Excursion v F350

Well I'm sure there could be worst problems in life but here's mine. I was set to buy my friends cream puff 2008 F350 4x4 CC-SB truck 100,000miles . Yesterday I found a 2004 4x4 Excursion Limited 55,000 miles. Both within $1000 dollars. The excursion is also a one owner cream
Puff.
With 3 kids both trucks work for me. Towing a trailer. Both work.
What do you guys think?

The only pro to the excursion is that it's a little shorter in length which helps me in my swing room with the trailer.

I would opt for the truck;
A. If you need to haul something higher than the top of the cab.
B. If you ever decide you may want to pull a 5er or a gooseneck.
C. Tie-downs in the bed of truck for things like motorcycles or ??
D. Any thing else that may not work with the excursion.
Of course, these are all just my opinions, and really may not fit your needs, so take it for its true value. Good luck with what ever your decision.

What motors do the two trucks have? I have the V-10 and love it, but if it's diesels in both I would favor the 6.0 in the EX over the 6.4 in the F-350.
How much trailer are you looking to pull? Depending on motor and rear gear the EX is rated to pull up to I think 12k, My ToyHauler scales at 9.5 to 10.5k lbs and my EX does fine with the upgrades I have done to it. (4.88's, headers, 5 Star tunes). The F-350 can of course pull that much and more as well as 5th wheels and gooses.
Any more kids on the way? Our Ex seats 8 in comfort and allows for a little separation of the kiddos when needed for everyone's sanity.
I'm biased, I'd jump on that EX with those low miles for more or less the same money. And if you're thinking about how useful that pickup bed will be I have a cheap 5x8 trailer that is lower and easier to load and unload than a pickup bed to cover those house/property chores.

You will probably get better mpg with the 3.73 rear end; but the 4.10 will pull a load better. I, personally, prefer the versatility of of a pickup, provided it is a crew cab.

Easy answer... Get the truck. Unless you plan to have more kids... you don't "need" the interior room of the Excursion (I had one cuz I have 6 daughters). If you want an enclosed back, you can always buy a shell for the back of the truck... you can still remove the shell and use it as a truck when needed. Truck is 100x much more versatile...

As a previous owner of an 02, 03, and 05 Excursion, I'm nostalgic about them, but I now have a 13 f350 platinum that blows even my tuned excursions away.... and that one is 9 years old now.... versus the truck @ 5 years old...

personally, unless they are GOOD deals, I would think long and hard about either one...

Have to wonder why only 55k ?!?!

I'm a huge fan of the Excursion. I got rid of my creampuff F-250 with PSD that had 15,000 miles for a V-10 X with 78k miles! And I don't regret it

however

a 2008 model has so many cool features and conveniences. For me personally, going from a 2006 model to a 2002 model was a step backwards in the dark ages. In 2008, Ford finally added all the cool gidgets and gizmo's that I love so much.

In your situation, I'd probably pick the F-350 in all honesty. Only problem being kids. I've done the SuperCrew/CrewCab game twice now with kids. There is a reason I drive an X. Started with 3, and now 4 kids. They can get really jammed up in the cab with you. Things get close. Things get loud. In the X, they are quite a bit away from you. It makes for a much happier family situation. Especially since I'm not wanting to smack 3 out of 4 kids

not everyone drives a lot. I average 3,000 miles per year for my personal rigs. sometimes 4,000 miles for a busy year.

my old 2006 F-250 had 9,800 miles when I bought it in 2011. just shy of 6yrs old. I sold it this year with just over 15,000 miles.
