My 2003 F250 is acting up. She blows white smoke and has very little power until the engine reaches 160 degrees. At that point she seems have decent power but not at the level I am used to. This problem has slowly got worst over the past 6 months. Last week I pulled a 5k load and she did not like it.
I got out the AE scan tool and hooked it up. Codes as Follows
P0281 cyl 7 injector circuit contribution/ balance fault
P0341 Camshaft sensor A circuit range/performance(blank 1 or single)
P0401 Exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient
p132b Tubro charger boost control A performance
I did a KOEO check. Did the injector buss and got
Po279 cyl 7 injector circuit
A few months ago I had a low boost code
Now where do I Start ...
Injector harness?
bad injector?
Tubro?
FICM?
I've had P0401 so many times it's rediculious, and now I'll have it forever because I don't have an EGR system anymore. I wouldn't worry about that as long as you're sure the cooler hasn't failed.
Faulty FICM can throw 150 different codes though. Checking voltage isn't that difficult, except you're laying on your engine so you'd ideally leave it for a few hours to cool down.
If memory serves, that voltage is fine, it's when you get down to 28v that you have a problem. FICM failure is often coupled with violent shaking when sitting idle, too.
Fortunately they're entirely repairable, which is a much less expensive option than replacement. Or there are guys here that will repair it for you, as sort of a middle of the road cost option.
The AE scanner does not report anything lower than 40v. The truck idles very rough and blows white smoke. Pulling a trailer makes it obvious that I have a big loss of power.
My guess at this point would be a fault injector, or camshaft position sensor maybe. If you're running on 7 cylinders that would explain some of your symptoms, but usually I like to go with the cheapest first.
Even though you see 48 main power, have to look at FICM vp and FICM lp Eds ficm repair . com is the ficm guy, also one code was EGR have you tried pulling the Valve and cleaning that, a code will pop up if you disconnect just clear and try again, check MAP and connection to Intake where the hose connects the nipple will get plugged up couseing a no boost, even the CAC boots and Inter cooler will do the same spit, oiled, dry . one more test to determind if the EGR cooler is failing is to park truck nose down over nite then pull EGR valve, look for wet coolent at the bottom of Intake.
I have pulled and checked the EGR. and checked all the connections you mention. I contacted Ed and he is sending me a FICM. I hope this will fix this problem. Thanks guys for all the help.
