need tires? help me pick

i will be needing tires before long and would like some ides.
i would like 265-75-16 E range or equivalent size
i tow and i go in to fields, woods some times towing 10000+, so i need some thing that has some grip. i not sold on mud tires nor am i apposed to them.
i hope to have a detroit true trac by the last of winter so that will help with the traction.
i would like some that last not gone in 35k miles.
i was looking at the Firestone transforce most say they last a long time.
i know im asking the $1000000 question but what have you run and how has it help up.
i would like not to bust the bank on a $1500 set as i cant see a tire being that much better.
i dont need any snow traction tires as we dont have any here.

On this truck I've ran in order of purchase: Kelly Safari's 285's D (came on the truck) driver side rear's blew up at 70MPH and came apart, flew off the rim and dented the crap out of my box. Michelin LTX's 265's E, Bridgestone Revo's 285's D, BF Goodrich All Terrain 285's E, another set of Kelly's made for discount tire 265 E, Michelin LTX 265's E, Michelin LTX 265's E.
I have liked the Michelin's the best, the are a harder compound, so they are great on road/rain tire. They are ok in mud if you have functional 4x4. I haven't found a 285 tire that will run over 30,000-35,000 miles with the towing and weight I'm loaded at all the time.

I have Goodyear Silent Armour on the Crew Cab and BFG Commercial TA on my plow truck f250. I have had Michelin LTX on an Explorer.

The Goodyears are ok. My fronts are at 25% and the rears are at 50%. Descent traction in snow, good in rain and good towing. My issue is that 18,000 on the rears and they are at 50%. To me that is that's not ok.

The BFG kick butt in the snow and are good off road. Probably not the best for towing.

The Michelin LTX tire was the best out of everyday driving, good off road and in the snow.

Personally, I am buying a set of Michelin LTX ms2 nest month. Good towing, great mileage and supposedly good in the snow and ice.

Ditto on the LXT Michelins, 70,000+ miles on set one, working on set two. I have pushed snow with my front bumper up a slight grade. I bought snow tires last year because set one was down to about 30% and I didn't want trouble. I will probably change to snow tires again this winter just because I have them. Costco has the best deal I have found. I run 285's and tow a 12,500 lb 5th wheel travel trailer.

I do a lot of towing, 15k + and lots of dd and hwy driving. I have 50k on my toyo open country m/t's I'm gonna run them about 5k more.
I really like them, They are aggressive but ride really nice, and are fairly quiet. Handle GOOD on wet roads for a mud tire. They are a 10ply load E tire. Im running a 315 75 16.

They are a mud tire so they are not going to be super quiet or ride super smooth. They look great and last a while.

The KEY to keeping a tire in good shape is rotate every 5k and keep your drive components " ball joints, shocks, bushings, wheel bearings etc" in check !

But I'm going to be getting some new shoes here soon. Think I'm going with the Toyo Open Country A/T 2. I want a smoother ride and longer life. They look to have good grip for the slick stuff too. Thats what I'm switching too

My top 2 choices in that size would be the Michelin LTX A/T 2

Or the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A

The lower priced tires are not going to meet your expectations.

Dura Trac

I am on my second set of Good Year Dura Tracs, 285/75 this time, first set was 265/75, I got 50k out of them, and they are now on a friends truck that is tight on money. The 285 setup cost me around 1100 bucks, but ya get what ya pay for on tires i think. I did have to up the air pressure to 60 lbs on all 4 corners to make them wear correctly with the 285 size. i tow a 22 foot goose neck with 6 horses fairly often, so i air up to 80 all the way around then.

I have really liked the Cooper ST's I have now in 285/75/16. Good traction in the snow/ice and in the dirt. A little noisy on the highway but not too bad. They are lasting pretty good too, about 10K on them and hardly any wear.

i just threw away a set of firestone transforce.
they wear forever, but suck in anything but dry road. and even on dry road they were very easy to spin.
i replaced them with a set of Cooper AT-3's. 285/75/16's, 55,000 Mile Tread Wear Protection.
these coopers are a fantastic tire. very quiet for their aggressive thread design.
and the price was rite too. $194 each, plus a $80 mail in rebate.

Unlike Tom, I kinda' like my Transforce HT's, but I am almost never off-road.

Since I'm in SoCal, the "dry road" part is also almost always true, too.

I will never put another bfg tire on any vehicle i own...

Have switched to the wranglers on my f150 and loved them.
Put 2 new ones on my rear outsides and they are quieter than the bfg's were... wearing better than they did... and are less $.

All that being said...
I kinda want to try out a set of buckshots.

Im in pasture mud on the "weekends at the range".

Oh...
I have 2 new coopers up front...
Maybe 5k on them...
Im upgrading to the wranglers as soon as i can.
I had to have 1 changed 2 days after i got it due to crazy sidewall bubbles.
They wear like silly putty might.

I put a set of Mastercraft Courser AXTs 285/75/16 on my 01 250 supercrew they ride great, they are made by cooper 55,000 mi. 75$ rebate going on now seem to be a great value. I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on these. This winter will tell the real story tho , as I plow snow in the snow-belt of northern Michigan. Mastercraft also has a 40,000 mile tire called courser ltr, little less aggressive tread but comes in load range e, very reasonably priced. Good luck.

I just noticed you have a 4 tire truck, not 6 tires.
You can get Michelin for around $925 (265/75/16).
