I went to an estate auction and they had a kubota diesel rtv and a tractor and some other shop and garage stuff. I was interested in buying it but i had no idea about excursions at the time or anything about the motor. I bought my first excursion in 2009 and it had 86k miles on it. it was an 01 7.3 psd 4x4. After the auction i called the widow of the man who owned it and she told me that he was a ford retiree and i dindt really relize even what i had bought until i got it home.
I sold that about a year later and have wondered why ever since.
Today i just bought a 2000 7.3 psd 4x4 from the original owner.
same color as the first one i had.
I will pull a small trailer with it and use it to haul stuff.
I dont really need it for all that it can do but i just love excursions so im back behing the wheel of one.
I bought this truck because it's the biggest thing out there. Originally it was meant to just tow my wife and my motorcycles, and I loved the way the truck looked and the fact that it was a 3/4 ton with seating for 8. Now, with a baby on the way, multiple moves we've done in the last three years, and life in general, it's been the all around worker that I never imagined I would need. I can't imagine going without this truck.
When you've got to pick up the in laws at the airport, and you can fit 7, with all their luggage for a weeks stay, and 2 10 inch subwoofers in a ported box, everyone perfectly comfortable, what more could you ask for?! Maybe better gas mileage, but that's why next time I'll buy a diesel, because I'll never live without one of these trucks!
Oh, did I mention the fact that we've put over 50,000 miles on this truck, and all I've done for maintenance has been oil changes, ball joints, brakes, and a steering box?! Ask me about the two BMWs, air bagged Infiniti, and Lincoln LS I had in that same time.

I usually have something to do, "out of town" when that happens
What more could you ask for? Ok, you asked... Ah, how bout asking they stay home!
I wanted something of a bov (bug out vehicle) and with the x it can tow a lot and hold a lot. And has power to. And also have something to tow my corvette to the track. And if u can believe it the excursion gets more mpg than the vette does lol
Good question. How do people work on the back area of the engine?
I am 6-5 and my EX is a 2wd (lower) and I still have trouble reaching everything back there.
I can either stand on a 5gal bucket and barely reach hte front, or crawl up in there and work on the back. At 5'7" with short arms and short legs, I can get up there easily enough and as long as you watch your footing, just about everything will support your weight. Some things are pointy so I put a piece of plywood down, it rests perfectly on top of hte intake and radiator.
I get on my hands and knees because it seems I always need to work on it when I just got home from a long drive on a hot day and I don't want to know what burnt nipple smells like... but yea I'm 5'8"... I wasn't laughing at the picture because I thought it was ridiculous... I laughed because it was spot on...
I owned a pool service company and needed a service truck that I could also use for a family vehicle. I started looking to replace my quad cab dodge ram with a full size SUV that would give me cargo space plus passenger space. I did not have the money for a new truck so I was looking at older Suburbans and Excursions. At the time, spring of 2011, gas was close to $4 a gallon so v10 Exs were priced accordingly. I found a 2000 V10 4x4 with 98,000 miles for $7500. It now has 177,000 trouble free miles on it. I love it and plan on never selling it! My two boys 2 & 5 always want to ride in it. In addition, my Chevy loving father in law, fell in love with my Ex and bought an Ex of his own in August.
