Funny, I've "known" russ (alaskanex) through an old explorer forum since like 2002ish I believe. We both still have our explorers and now have excursions. Haha
I love the Excursion because we can load up the kids, dogs, luggage, connect a 9K camper on the back and drive for long distances between fillups and have plenty of room and power doing it.
With our boat always on the lake, we decided to sell the wife's Commander when we would have the two of us, plus 3 kids, the dog, and all of our gear for the weekend. Felt bad for the dog. Haha.
I don't buy Chrysler or GM's anymore, the Excursion was the biggest, plus I had a 2007 F350 a few years ago, and I miss that truck, so going big Ford was a no brainer.
I had wanted an Expedition for about 2 years but had lacked funds to buy something decent... when I found out my wife had decided we were trying for baby #3 I decided to buy one. On the way to go check out a 2002 Expedition I drove past an Acura dealership that was selling an Ex. I didn't even know they existed until I saw it... they're rare here. Anyways I stopped and asked about it and bought it within the week.
Im a ford guy. Grew up liking suburbans, and absolutely loved a neighbors Ford Centurion. I had no idea how rare these were back then... but ever since the Excursion came out, i dreamed of one and finally found one that was as cheap as dirt... less than 2k for a truck that need an engine and tires, but hey after all the sweat i put into this thing it will be well worth the seven months to not have a damn car payment on it!
I was trying to find a F350 crew cab but they were are pounded and beat. So I figured why not Excursion same chassis and drive line. I couldn't be happier, love the room tow capacity just need to fix the crappy suspension then it will be great .

Had a 94 F150 Xtra cab for several years. We upgraded from a popup to a 30 foot camper and that was all the 302 wanted. We made a few local trips without problems, except the kids in the little back seat and dogs in the bed. Always had a shell on the 150. When we made a trip to the mountains and I thought we would never get over the hill, I told my wife that I wanted a F250. Well I kept wanting for another 2 years.I looked for a 460 or V10 F250 for a while but couldnt afford anything worth having.
Then we made a trip to the beach and borrowed my bosses Suburban. My wife then decided it was time to upgrade. She wanted a Burb. We looked at Burbs for 3 weeks and even made a couple offers. The whole time I was saying Ex. She finally agreed to go look at one, she had never even sat in one yet. I had been watching Excursions on CL the whole time we had be shopping for Burbs. The first one we looked at had been on CL for a month. We never got to look at another one. We made an offer that night and picked it up the next day. I wanted a 4x4 but got a 2wd with 60k less miles for same price as any 4x4 I had been seeing.
It needed a little work and a LOT of cleaning. I gutted the inside and pressure washed everything. PO had kids on traveling ball team and this must have been the bus to haul the kids between games.

My Dad was a Ford guy, so of course I was destined to be a Ford guy as well.
Loved my 97 Expedition (5.4l 4x4 w/tow package). Tranny failed - shop told me it was a "factory reman" that was put back on the line, but they put it together wrong.
I got 135k+ on a trans that was put together wrong. Shop rebuilt it and I added some air bags to the rear coil springs to help when towing a FD equipment trailer.
Decided the trailers were getting too heavy and I didn't want to run the Expy into the ground and "have" to find a replacement, so I started looking. Found a cherry 2005 SD 4 door (crew?) cab, short bed, black, BEAUTIFUL, but it had some broken exhaust manifold studs, and a dent in the door. Dealer would fix the door but refused to do the exhaust manifold bolts (?).
I was also looking at Excursions...found the one I ended up buying. Was severely torn, but figured even if I handled the exhaust bolts on the cheap, I'd still have to invest in a hard bed top to protect my gear and fitting the required sub box would be an issue in the truck, so I went with the 2000 V10 Limited.
I was on my way to work listening to Bob and Tom when Tom began drooling over this new MEGA SUV that Ford was producing.. "7 doors" he said, "bet those tree huggers are gonna love this thing" he said..
I waited for the official release and went to look at it. Loved it but realized at the time I could not afford it. A friend ended up with one in late 2002 and I quickly became interested again, by this time I could afford it and I wanted the baddest one out there so I went to my local dealer and ordered one with every conceivable option available at the time and a diesel to boot.
Gave a deposit and waited and waited and waited. Nothing, dealership said these were so popular that they could not get one located.. I became fed up and cancelled the deal, gave back my deposit and traded our suburban for a car for my wife at a different dealership.
Fast forward to 2005:
I got the fever again as we just purchased an extremely heavy popup camper an even though my 2WD 94 F250 pulled it fine, it was only an extra cab and no room for my wife and son plus 2 150+ lb Newfoundlands. I found an 03 Limited V10 in Chicago that was basically the one I wanted except for the diesel and bought it. Pretty good deal I thought, 20K with 46k on the clock. The PO said he was concerned over fuel prices and didn't want it anymore. Lucky for me as I don't give a hoot about fuel costs. I needed this vehicle and I had already debated the fuel cost/consumption until blue in the face..
So happy we made the purchase because soon thereafter we sold the popup and purchased a 31' toy hauler as my son was just in the beginning stages of Junior Drag racing. The EX and the TH became our home away from home every weekend from May until October for 4 years.
We had been pulling our camper with our 2008 F150 Super Crew and although we were within the limits and it pulled OK, I did not like the performance. I started looking for a used 3/4 ton Super Crew to pull the camper and stumbled across a 2003 Limited V10 in great shape with 164K on the clock for $8K. Since that was half the price of the 3/4 ton Super Crews I had been looking at (and in much better shape), we bought it.
Been noticing the trend seams to be a lot of towing! I haven't towed anything with my 05'. I really just like the look of the beast, it's a massive animal!!
I was a big fan of the Expedition when they first came out. As I got older started a family, boat and 3 big dogs trips and just plain old life. I bought a Suburban nothing but problems. Then bought a 2000 Eddie fell in love. Bought a new 2004 Eddie. This is my daily driver, I drove my Mercedes the other day for the first time in over a month.
