Losing oil somewhere

Losing oil
<hr style="color:#ffffff; background-color:#ffffff" size="1"> I went through 2-1/2 qts of oil in 2500 miles since my last oil change. The truck is running better than it ever has. I have no smoke, cold or warmed up. I get about a quarter sized drop of oil from the trans inspection cover a day. I pulled the intake boot next to the turbo and it is fairly well drenched in oil. My turbo wheel is pitted but the wheel itself has no movement, it spins nice, I can still hear it spin for a bit after I shut the engine down. I have no codes. I have no blow-by as checked with the oil fill cap put upside down on the hole.

Where the heck is the oil going? Possible that it is going out through the CCV and getting sucked onto the turbo? Could I have lost some of the filter media from the doghouse and the vapors are saturated with oil and also pitted my wheel? You can see that the oil in the boot and the bit below the T. wheel is still pretty clean.

My guess would be oil seals on the turbo or injector o-rings.

Thanks. The fuel in my bowl looks clean, not black, so I would think that rule out injector o-rings?
Wouldn't I have more visible oil if the turbo seals were shot? The top of pedestal is clean. Not sure if it makes any difference but the engine has 80k original miles.

Pic of the fuel and fuel filter. Fuel is really blue/green because I add tcw 3 every tankful

Seems like a lot of oil in the intake tube from the CCV. I know there will be some, but that looked like more than normal. Also, look in the coolant bottle and see if there is any oil in the coolant.

Coolant looks good. I had the whole system flushed and new coolant and SCA about 3 months ago by the Ford dealer. It is still a pretty radioactive green.

It also looks to me like a lot of oil in the boot. I guess I'll pull the doghouse and have a look see. I already have the orings and washers. I was going to use them for a closed loop CCV mod. I wish now I had done that already, I was going to install a draining, clear fuel bowl to catch any oil coming that way and then back up to the intake.

I just can't seem to figure why so much oil would be going through the ccv? Maybe if i had blowby but that's been ruled out.

Can you think of any other reason I would have pressure under that valve cover forcing gases out that way? Or maybe the oil is not draining back to the crankcase fast enough?

Blow by would be the only thing I would know, but like you said, that's been ruled out, and with 80,000 miles, I don't wouldn't think there would be any anyway! LOL!

Thanks Bill, this is a stumper. If I had smoke, or oil puddles, or codes, something..... to go on.....

tomorrow if I have time after work I'll pull off the doghouse and look for what I don't know.

If i'm not leaking it out I'm blowing it out my exhaust probably combusting it but not enough to smoke. I guess I can just consider it another additive to my tcw3.

But how much blowby if warm with cap off if you run it at 2k rpm. Thats how we checked them at the dealership. that turbo has had some stuff through it.them blades dont do that on their own.

I'll use a couple quarts in twenty five hundred miles but for me, I think that's normal. I'll go up some hills pulling hard at 3K rpm's so I just figure that's normal. The mule used to do the same thing. If your not rocking it hard like me then maybe some thing is going on with your motor. I'll have to try the 2K rpm cap test Aaron, mine stays on fine at idle.

I didn't know that. I'll try that tomorrow. I changed the intake and the y pipe boots a couple of months ago from the old orange ones because they were falling apart. That's when I noticed the pitting on the wheel. i figured at the time it was from debris coming in around small tears around the clamps.

Whew!! You had me a scared there for a moment.

Had my buddy hold the rpm's to 2,000 and no movement of the cap at all other than vibration moving it off the same as at idle. So, off with the doghouse now. Never had that off, I've heard there is steel wool or something like that in there that the oil condenses on. I'm beginning to think that the filter media or whatever it is got sucked in, damaged the wheel and now the oil laden vapors have an open invitation into the intake. Just a theory though. I'll pull it tonight if it cools off enough before dark.

last couple of times ive been stumped. my oil level is always perfect.
my question is when i change my oil and i pour almost 4 gallons in.
only 3 gallons on used oil comes out. how i know is i refill the gallon jugs with used oil. how is this possible. oil level is always the same.

A good amount of that oil is still on the motor when you drain it, the HPOP res holds some, as well as the oil rails in the heads. Also, they dont call these things oil burners for no reason. Diesel's naturally burn oil. Pull your downpipe off and see if its oily. Check your valley. Any drips where you park it?
