'62 headlight knob

'62 headlight ****
I decided to start replacing broken dash ***** on my 62 unibody and am having a heck of a time. I saw a prior post by Bill explaining how to remove the headlight **** and stem by pushing the button on the top of the light switch and pulling the **** stem all the way out. He wrote that the new **** and stem are then pushed in until a click it heard. So yesterday I removed the old **** and stem and it came out just fine, but when I try to put the new one in, there's no click. The new one and old one look essentially the same. Same length I think. They look so close but could be just a hair different in length, maybe an 1/8 of an inch or less. I tried installing the new one multiple times to see if I'm putting it in wrong but no go. The old one clicks in every time. Have any of you run into this when replacing the old ***** with new repros?

Ok, so I went to the Truck Shop in Orange where I got the **** and stem and the sales guy was nice enough to bring out a '62 headlight switch. Of course, the stem clicked right in. Went back home and tried again, but still not getting it. What's worse is I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. When I put the new stem in, I can feel it hit the spring resistance and when I push it clicks the lights from high to low to off, but then it slides right out. It doesn't grab anything.

Uh huh, that's what they told you the switch was from, but was it? Probably not.

Truck Shop sold you the wrong **** & shaft. Measure your original, compare with these two.

C3TZ-11661-D .. Headlamp Switch **** & Shaft 3 3/16" long: 1963/66 F100/1100.
Parts cluck @ Truck Shop only going by what their repro parts catalog application is. I doubt they have the 1957/63 FORD Truck Parts Catalog to verify.
