Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, this is my first truck, first diesel, and first time using a forum. I just recently bought a 87 f250 for 500! it has a 6.9L and a 5speed transmission with 4x4.
It doesn't have a bed on it, and it is missing pretty much all of the exhaust.
It seems at this moment that it runs well, it starts right up in the cold no problem. but everytime I buy a new car I like to go threw it, and fix any possible problems down the road. the truck has 186,000 on it. anything I should look into doing? I have not a single clue where to start. it needs shocks, cab mount bushings a bed and an exhaust and she seems like that will be all, but before I do that I just want to plan ahead. I drive a lot and don't need this to break down on me. I drive 200 miles a day on average.
Just change the fluids and filters. My old 86 went 674,000 miles. I replaced a couple of injection pumps and one supply pump almost forgot several starters. They will run almost forever, but are hard on starters.
Mine was in an E-350 with about 1800 pounds in it all the time so no axle hop. I would change everything and start fresh. I did 5,000 mile oil changes and changed fuel filter every other oil change. Changed transmission fluid and filter at 40,000 miles rear axle at the same as transmission. I would get around 200,000 miles out of a C-6 transmission.
