I'd suggest checking all the OEM grounding points. I added a extra grounding cable on the bed. I cleaned and reinstalled all the OEM grounding straps. It's nice when the whole CB/antenna package can talk!!
My Wilson 5000 mag mount worked great, but I have since went to a thru roof mount.
I hate to drill holes in the truck, call me a wimp on that. So you can get a mounting bracket like the this in the pic. Also Firestick makes a non-ground plane antenna. It is meant for boats or fiberglass campers, etc. but works quite well when mounted in less than optimal positions for an antenna needing a ground plane.
I use one mounted on the bull bar on the truck I use for offroading. It is on a quick connect mount and has a secondary benefit of showing me exactly where the front of the truck is. Some folks still use CB but thankfully more and more (even on the trails) are turning to ham as it truly is far better.
Just an FYI! Hardware installed and will be doing the wiring in 3 weeks. Wiring will include (in addition to coax, control and power cables) a grounding strap from the toolbox to the frame.
