I just installed a CB antenna (Wilson 2000) on my truck to the truck bed rail behind the cab. I tuned the antenna and best I could get was 2.8. Wondering if there is a better spot other than going to magnet mount. Thought about going a foot or two back from the cab but wanted to bounce ideas off of someone knowledgeable.
Thanks! I will try that and test then try moving antenna away from the cab testing each time to see if I can find a good spot. Otherwise I might have to get a roof mount with quick disconnect.

I have a stake hole mount with a firestik. I needed to scrape paint to get a good ground. Unless you are using an antenna that is a non ground plane, grounding is essential.
I was always told the best place was as centered on the rig as you could get.
That the rig works as a ground plane and to mount it to one side has a
tendancey (sp) to send a more directional signal than omni-directional
as it would be in the center.
the vehicle does serve as the ground plane (that is why it is important to get a goo ground). And yes, centering the antenna does let you transmit better, but it is 2 different issues. Sometimes centering is not practical. And in my humble opininion the range gained is not that significant, I could be wrong.
