I have a 07 extended cab. I'm looking to get a new CB antenna and mount. I have a magnetic antenna now and it just does not work very well. I have a firestick one for my jeep and works awesome. looking for the best place to mount it so its not in the way of anything and still get a good ground. I think the magnetic one has a ground issue.
I use a Wilson 2000 Trucker CB antenna - with a 5-6 inch magnetic mount - centered on my F250 extended cab; I've only received positive comments from OTR truckers.
My only problem is I clip many things with it being up so high - so far it's survived all that abuse.
For more than you want to know (joke!) look at KØBG.COM . In case you don't know, CB is in the HF (high frequency) spectrum so look for his HF notes. He also addresses VHF and UHF (very high and ultra high frequency) and their antennas and their mounts will be very different.
I installed a new Cobra 25LX & a Wilson 1000 Roof-Mount Antenna in my 2006 CC
Works great, only install ive ever had w/a Flat 1 SWR, the Roof-Mount provides a perfect Ground-Plain
Drilling a hole in Roof was scary (i triple checked) ALL cords/wires are ran out of sight above headliner. The biggest pain was cutting out the inside of that console, i had it in/out alot & was using bags to catch shavings from the Dremel while doing fittings/modifying while installed

Excellent job... This is the ONLY way to go... It's the best mounting position for a single antenna and will net the best overall range... I'm working on mine now. I have to find all my Wilson 1000 pieces to install on my "new to me" 2000 F250.
When installing the roof mount is there a shorter version of the Wilson that I can use. I don't like having the huge whip on there when Im driving, was wondering if there was a shorter version of that, but Im looking to do this project this winter when my truck doesn't move as much so I can take my time.
The wilson 1000 is the best CB antenna around. Take it to a CB shop and have them tune it for $10.00. You can cut the whip to length but, the standard length is recommended. If you don't like the long whip and cut it... and decide you don't like the short antenna due to crappy transmission/reception, you can always buy another replacement whip for $10.00. But... like I said, the factory whip (4' I think) is going to get you the best range.
That is not necessarily true. Antenna length has more to do with SWR matching rather than overall length. The most important thing that you can do is match your antenna to you radio by the means of tuning. The standard length may prove to be acceptable for one user and his/her radio, but the SWR ratings for another user could be poor and potentially harmful to the radio. Please take some time to read up on proper radio setup and tuning SWR.
Here is a link to some basic reading on setting up a Radio and basic SWR tuning.
