50 cent mod... NAH...

I've done some searching around here and I see a few guys have used zip ties instead of quarters, and the 50 cent mod has failed on me twice now. My truck just threw a fit for the third time and before I pop the vc I would like to know how you guys wrapped the harness with zip ties. I looked and tried last time I was under there and didn't find a "good" way of going about it.

I know you guys are gonna say but the clips or the new style gaskets and blablabla lets face it my funds are too low right now to do that.

One thing to look into would be compatibility of the zip tie plastic with oil. I don't know whether it is compatible or not. A few years ago I left a puddle of diesel engine oil on the lid of a rubbermaid trash can and the oil dissolved the plastic.

ok dont laugh, ...heck i dont care, laugh away . my thought was i should replace the gaskets but didn't have any good ones on hand . so i grabbed the super glue and the quarters an got busy. if it didn't work i would put my order in with clay, if it did great. that was 7 months ago and still going strong.

I only laugh because that's exactly what I did about two weeks ago. I guess my super glue wasn't as good as yours is

No I have no idea what's going on with it. I'm getting ready to pull the cover again in the next couple mins. Well see if it's broke this time or not.

Got it. I used a washer roughly the same size as a quarter just a tad thicker to insure that it doesn't come apart again. I'll post pictures of the fix later.

For the love of....

While I realize I risk impinging on your quality time under the VCs, but are new harnesses a violation of a modder's oath or something?

Using a serious tone here: Grip on the gasket is not the whole show... there could be damaged connections inside the harness or damaged pins on the gasket. I removed everything, cleaned it all, and thoroughly inspected - that's how I caught the bad pin seen below (another truck).

Upon installation of new UVCHs (with improved locking tab) on Stinky, they gripped like a Tea Party Republican to a tax break... it ain't gunna let go.

Have you checked your 42-pin connector to see if the break in conductivity is outside the VC?

Yep tugly I refuse to buy them lol.... Nah it's my budget for now. I did check all the connections and not a single problem in that sense. Once I get back to work I'll be fixing my jetta and going back to using that as a dd while I get all of my issues worked out with the 7.3 but for now there's no work for me.

OT...Tugly, when replacing the harness, does the under valve cover wiring come with it. From your pic, the "right" lower white wire looks to be, exposing wire?
