Going to dig into the clutch on Saturday is there anything besides the obvious I need to do while its apart? I bought the LUK kit w/smf a new clutch fork and 5 quarts of royal purple synthetic ATF. My cousin is offering to lend me a hand, I've done replacements on gassers that I've owned before the powerstroke and I'm thinking it shouldn't take but a few hours we'll see.
Would be a good time to mod your firewall / floor flange for an aftermarket downpipe, if you're not already so equipped. Also would be the time to do any repairs on the up-pipes, if any leaks (soot) are detected.
x3 on that!! Personally i'd replace them regardless if they were leaking YET because they will, and id kick myself for not doing it lol. Take a look at your throwout bearing while your there. While doing my buddies, we found his was toast and needed replacing.
Just got finished up, what an improvement! No more rattles, grinds or slipping. Shifts like a new one and doesn't take king kong to push the clutch pedal in. Can't believe I tortured myself for the last few years nursing that DMF setup. Wasn't that bad of a job, the old DMF face was still smooth but there was about an 1-1/2" of play between them. The clutch itself looked pretty good but the fingers on the pressure plate were worn and bent. Hopefully good for another 3 years until I can get the daughter outta college, going to have to dig into the glowplugs next, ain't going the plug in route this winter.
